Door won't open on '94 4Runner
Hi, my drivers side door is stuck on my 1994 4Runner. We've got the door panel partially pulled back and can see a vertical rod that should be on a red plastic piece. We can't get that rod back on because the door won't open and we can't to get to it. We can't release the latch to open the door either. It will lock and unlock but it stays locked. Um, by the way, I'm the wife - can you tell????

im confused... the door is locked... and wont unlock?
or the door handle rod to actuate the release is "not functioning"
if i remember right... the inside handle, inside lock button are all independant of the key lock and outside door handle... so if anyone of them isnt working you have another chance at getting the door open.

When lifting or depressing the lock on the door does it feel like it engauges or dis-engauges the locking mechanism? Sounds like something came off inside the door. You may have to take off the door panel and investigate.

The problem with taking the door panel off while closed is the last few clips obscured by the dash. If you don't mind panel carnage by all means yank it off, it'll never be the same. Your best bet seeing neither inner or outer lock and latch is working is one of the following with access to a slim jim: Local law inforcement, body shop, stealership or someone that has one (perferably someone not into jacking cars).

is it a small spring on the latch mechanism that broke? from what you are describing, that is the problem i experienced a while back. i rigged up a pull wire to actuate the mechanism until i was able to get a new spring. ill try and attach a pic of the offending little beastie.
