How long does it take to remove / install Valve Body?

I'm trying to figure out if I have enough time to do my VB swap to IPT this week before I have to drive my rig to Seattle this weekend. I was thinking it'd take an hour to remove and maybe an hour or two to reinstall / test drive / top off. That means remove tomorrow and fedex out, they get on Tues evening if I'm lucky, they finish and fedex back to me Wed night, I get Thurs and install by 4:00 Fri. Your thoughts concerns? You think I can pull it off? How reliable is fedex "Next Day"?

FedEx Next Day is VERY reliable, but you'll pay for it. I'm thinking that the valve body is about 16 pounds, and the box will end up being about 18x12x8. With an insured value of $600, then your FedEx choices will be (see the rates at fedex.com):
  • First Overnight (8am delivery), $123
  • Priority (10:30am), $95
  • Standard (3pm), $83
  • 2 Day (4:30pm in 2 days), $57
Don't forget that you'll need to spend that money twice - once out and once back.

Time wise, I'd bet that you'll be closer to 3 hours including the time to drain the tranny, pull the VB, let it drip, wipe it down, pull the springs (pack 'em separately!), pack it in a box, get it to FedEx, etc.

Oh! One HUGE thing... You'll want to call John and make sure that he's not backed up and can get to it immediately!

WOW! Thanks for all the info! I think I'll just give John a call and see what is realistic for him. No sense in spending extra to get it there in the morning if he can't work on it until later on.

I just can't wait to get it done so I can finally install this stupid URD kit that has been sitting in my office for a month...

Ahhhhh... go ahead and install it! Just stay out of the skinny pedal for that shift from 1st->2nd, that's the real killer.

Seriously, the VB upgrade is really important (I need to get it done as well) but having the fuel and timing issues taken care of is also real important - possibly moreso. If you're running lean and knocking now, you're kinda' sitting on a time bomb.
