source of high HC at idle for smog check?
So one the way home from failing my smog check, I hit 200K on my toyota
van.
It a 2.0 L 3yec auto.
Everything passed except HC at idle (1050rpm). Been looking through my FSM
and seems that it might be PVC, EVAP or catalitic converter. My ecu is
clear of any codes, gas cap seal is ok and oil filler cap is tight. I plan
on testing PVC and EVAP soon but wanted any advice I can get before I get
into this.
TIA

I'm only about 40ppm over max on idle HC. Went in with recent oil change and air filter. It's efi so no carb to clean. I think I'll try more complete TB cleaning and a new PVC. I'm also going to check for vac leaks. I'm 25 mile from the nearest inpection shop so it was completely warmed-up. They were done with preinspection within 1/2 hour so I'm sure it didn't cool off too quickly
thanks for the quick reply.

Hydrocarbons is unburnt or raw fuel. Possible causes are dirty injectors, PCV valve, EVAP solenoid, fuel pressure regulator, bad VAFM, dirty air filter or restriction in airway, low cylinder compression, worn spark plugs, weak ignition coil, coolant temperature sensor out of range, intake air temperature sensor out of range or bad oxygen sensor. That is all I can think of. Since you have 200k on it I would lean (pun inteneded) towards dirty injectors, bad O2, EVAP system and VAFM out of wack.
