Help.... Replacing upper control arm bushings
Hey guys, I'm about to put in some new upper bushings on the upper control arm (1991 yota pk) and I was curious do I need to clamp both upper and lower control arms or can I just unbolt the uppers and press them out and install new ones? This is my first time doin this so I'm Alil curious. Thanks in advance.

dont know what you mean by clamp both upper and lower...
You have to remove the torsion bars then remove the upper control arms, unbolt the cross shaft and use a press on the bushings. A FSM would go a long way for help on this.
They aren't fun to do, and it's easy to destroy the control arm...i've done it

Ok that does sound good. The reason I said clamp is because a buddy said you have to pull em together. I guess he was thinking there was tension in that area that would force them apart. By any chance would you know any links that show a step by step photo how to?

NOt true the only tention is from the tortion bar, adjust the tortion bars down and then unbolt the control armfrom frame and spindle, its easier to undo the 4 bolts holding the ball joint in place over trying to bash it out of the spindle. i also found it easier to use a drill and a wire wheel to get old bushings out, i say this because the bushing kit i got does not come with hardwear so i had to reuse the metal. the excess rubber thats stuck to the metal will come right off with a wire wheel and then press in the new bushing with a ball joint press, seemed to be the easiest way for me

Heat up with a torch the outside from one end, the bushing will push out. I'm sure theres youtube videos of this technique. Works better than making a huge mess tearing out rubber. Save the wire wheel for cleanup ; )

Here is the upper! However I did snap the adjuster bolt so now its back together getting new bolts tomorrow... Once you drill out the bigger bushing the smaller one will come out with some force and the mounting bracket comes out

Just a mallet didn't need a press and they were the original bushings, after drilling out the bigger bushing the smaller bushing just slipped out with a little force
