warm start problem
I have an 88 pickup 22re efi m/t. I recently put a motor in my truck and it runs awesome but when it is warm outside above 50 it does not start right up cranks for a bit and I usually have to give it a little gas. When it is freezing out I can reach in hit clutch cancel and it fires right up. Now to eliminate some possibilities the motor I put in was complete I just plugged my harness in. Yes my old motor always started no problems.

Check the cold start time switch. when you know it wont start, pull the CSI out, not sure where on a 22re, and put it in a large plastic bag. Turn it over and see if fuel sprays out. If fuel does spray out, either you time switch is bad or the injector is stuck open. Remember do this when you KNOW it will not start.
Check the ECT as well however I think he may have meant the CSI time switch. I'm not sure what the ECT does exactly but I had the same issue and I replaced the CSI, time switch, and ECT and flushed the cooling system and it went away.

From my understanding, and I may be wrong, the engine coolant temperature switch tells the ecu when to use the cold start time switch, which in turn, controls the cold start injector. At any rate, the entire system should be checked to ensure correct function.
My thinking is that the ect could be bad, causing the csi to fire when warm, causing almost a flood condition. This would then require the OP to open the throttle body to allow enough air in to start.
May be a wild guess, but, hey, you gotta start somewhere! Eliminating those components from the diagnosis certainly won't hurt.

I will swap out the temp sensor and check the afm, the motor I put in has a good amount of work done to it and I have not adjusted the afm I still have the one that is in the truck the motor came out of.

Ok I know this is an old post and I have been very lazy! I changed the cold start injector, timer and engine temp sensor. All of these came off the motor I took out that started perfectly every time, still have the same problem will not start unless you press the pedal down???
