Hello, sorry if this has already been discussed already.
I have a 04 4runner sr5 v8 full time 4wd with only H4 & L4 selector switch. I decided to test out L4, switched while in neutral and drove around a parking lot. Then attempted to switch back to H4 in neutral and steering straight at a complete stop with negative results and seems to be stuck in L4. Can anyone help me solve this problem? Please.

I've read on another forum that I should give the actuator some light taps to free it.

was this parking lot dry pavement? try backing up in a straight line

It was pavement. Did reversing in a straight line also.

I got my 4Runner out of L4 mode. Hoped in this after noon and warmed her up for a good 15-20min. Put it L4 ran the gears back and forth to P-L then neutral, switched to H4 waited a few minutes then heard a thump. Reversed out the garage and she drove like normal again.

Mine did that once. It had to be jacked up off the ground to let the wheels hang free. It was apparently bound up. It came out after being on the lift.
