5VZ-FE swap to 4 Cylinder Engine

Hello out there. I may need to replace my 5VZ-FE in my 1997 Tacoma 4x4. I was just curious whether or not I could swap out the engine for a 4 cylinder? I would not be doing the work myself, and just wanted to know if anyone here has successfully done this. Thanks for reading this.

Red face

Most go the other way I don`t know of anyone who has gone from a 3.4 to a 4 cylinder

What possible motive could you have for doing this???

If your paying to have it done it will be cheaper to fix your engine or replace with what you have in there.

Till you get done finding a 4 cylinder buying that and doing the swap.

Unless someone is doing this that does these kind of swaps it is going to be a learning experience for them and quite expensive

It can be done but for how much is the ????

Thanks for the reply Wyoming9! Well, I thought I would save money by getting a smaller engine both up front and at the gas pump. But I see your point that it will cost me a lot of $$ for someone to do necessary modifications to make it work.

Only reason to go with a 4 banger of the V6 is if you plan to turbo it, you can turbo the 4 banger easy.

Otherwise just replace it with another V6. Gas mileage will be about the same or better with the V6 honestly depending on how you drive.

Thanks TA for the advice. Still waiting to hear back from my mechanic whether I need a new engine or not. I think I will just stick with the V6 engine if it will be less complicated and if there won't be too much benefit to convert it to a 4 cylinder engine.

LOL it will cost you WAY more to swap a different engine in, rather than rebuilding what you have.
