89 Toyota Pickup Clutch problem. Hopefully something simpler...
I have an 89 Toyota v6 pickup and last night the clutch pedal started sticking down going into first gear. Today I drove it again and it began doing the same thing in second gear as well. Now it stays all the way down with the gear engaged unless you manually pull up the pedal by hand. There is no slipping of the clutch, and once in, it seems fine. Any ideas? Do I need a full new clutch assembly or is it something simpler?
Thanks in advance for any input

Thanks for the response. I checked the master cylinder and it was empty... I should have thought of that. After filling it, the same thing was happening and I located the slave and there were no leaks on that or the master cylinder. Should I bleed it? And how is that done? Also, the pedal assembly is fine.

you definitely need to bleed it. top off the master cylinder. then on the right side of your trani there will be the clutch slave. about 3" long bolted to your trani, which pushes on the fork coming out of your trani. on the side of the slave there is a nipple sticking out with a 10 mm or (11mm if it's aftermaket) fitting on it. crack that open until it starts dripping. make sure the lid is off the master. close the bleeder. then have a friend push down on the clutch. open the bleeder till the fluid stops flying out. close the bleeder, have him let up, then push down again. open the bleeder. repeat till there is no more air in fluid. don't let the fluid get low tho or it will suck in more air.

clutch masters usually leak in the cab, above the clutch pedal. clutch slaves usually leak inside the booty on it. pull it back and see if clutch fluid drips in your eye. if there isn't any fluid in either, then you may start checking your lines and make sure they aren't rusting apart cracked or smashed. also check the lines and make sure they are tight.

Thanks for the info. Its dark now but Ill definitely bleed it tomorrow. The lines look fine and I don't think either the master or the slave are leaking but I just glanced at where they would be. Ill let you know how the bleeding goes.
Thanks again

No doubt it was master thieves that boosted your fluid out of your hydraulic clutch.
You have a leak it is a closed system when it is all working like it should .
At this time it seems to be slight but it could fail completely at the worst time.
looking at the Master cylinder fluid level for the clutch and brake is something I do when ever I open the hood.
Most often when topping off the blinker fluid

So, I bled it and air and fluid just kept coming out, so I imagine there is a leak in the clutch master. It doesn't seem to be leaking out of the slave, and the master is somewhat damp inside the cab (could just be grease?). My guess is that its the master... How tough is that job?

it's a cinch. a bolt and a nut, unhook a spring, undo a kotter key and a pin, unhook clutch line, and reverse removal procedure. then bleed again. if it's damp in the cab then it's the master. you can pull back the rubber booty to make sure though.\
gotta make sure you close the bleeder before he lets up on the peddle though, otherwise it will suck air right back in.
