Easy way to tell what your gear ratio is.

I am wondering of the easiest way to tell what gear ratio my toyota has?

VIN # or data plate decoding.

so when i ran the vin i found it had a gear ratio of 4.375, when i searched for any gears that matched it i had no luck. What is the deal???

4.38 is a rare ratio.

4.37 is common in 79 axles. In fact, in 79' you could only get 4.37's.. 80' was 4.10s, 81' is 3.90's, then back to 4.10s after that.

Nobody sells this particular R/P combo because it's really not worth it. For the price of a new setup 3rd member you could get 4.56's, or even 4.38's.. And for REAL cheap you can find good 4.10 setups.

Now, to swap these into your near-stock 1st gen, would be decent. Granted you could get them at a reasonable price. They're better than 4.10's and 31's, and youre pretty close to 4.56's.

79-80 had 4.37. 81 had 3.90 then 82 had the 4.10-11 gear ratio.
