22r computer with a 22re engine?

I recently bought a 85 4runner and noticed the computer says 22r on it even though my engine is EFI? It has 3 connectors on it. Just wondering if anyone knew if this computer was universal? Thanks. The engine seems to run fine, some small bogging but I believe its TPI related.

22r's do have computers. for the tranny and ignition and some other things, just not an EFI control.

lol, thats not a computer, ur distributer sends a signal to the coil telling it to fire when the engine spins over, not a computer, and ive never delt with toyota automatics in carbed toyotas. but as far as a regular computer for anything other than the trans, it is non existant in carbed toyotas. the fuel system is mechanical, not much diffence than a SBC

Care to elaborate?
manual transmissions dont need computers, and ignition is controlled by the dizzy

what years do these 22r motors have "computers" for the emissions? Is'nt all the emissions stuff vacuum controlled by temperature and vacuum switches not an electronic computer?

I'd like to know where becuase my 87 carbed motor (last year for the carb well at least major production anyway) don't have one. everything emission related is done through BVSV's and temperature switches, the ignition is not computer controlled either, that runs off the dizzy and the coil.

Thats the emission control thingamabob on the 22r. This is on a '85 2wd truck, its located behind the passenger kick panel just like the ECM on the 22RE trucks.

Yes, your motor does have one, just like in the picture above, every 22r is controlled exactly as you described, but the carb IS computer controlled, like i posted, it does not require the comp to run, but they all (originally) have one

it may give a hot here and there but still not a funtioning computer in my eyes. thats like putting MSD on a SBC and calling it a computer, but i see what ur saying, im sure it controls the three things on the carb that require a ground and hot.

looks like by the part descriptions this thing really isn't a computer like 85-in-va said. All it looks to be is a very complicated relay.
