1991 toyota 3.0 4x4 engine problems...
Okay so I lent my truck out to a friend, he had it approx. 4 months and I finally got it back.. It has been sitting for about 2 months.. They changed out the thermostat.. Didn't tighten it down so it leaked the coolant out and they ran it real hot
Changed plugs put some gas in it (dead on E) it took about 10 minutes and it started... Idles perfect but it has a noticable miss... It was a horrible miss at first but once it got a little warmer (not running temp but warmer) it started getting alot better.
What I found on the plugs .. A couple had oil on them and one had oil and coolant. I was told by somebody it is most likely the piston rings are shot on a few of the cylinders, just wanted to hear other opinions.

Well if you have coolant and oil on one and oil on the others...I'd guess to say it's the HG. Are they all on the same side that are spotted. Or are they on different sides?

Yup number 6.. Also going to do a compression test in about 15 minutes and will let yall know..
Got a good lead on a low mileage 3.0 would it be easier just to swap engines or change the head gasket? I look under the hood and get scared lol.. Makes my lt1 fbody look like a piece of cake..

You have a blown the head gasket caused by overheat.
It does not take much on the 3VZE, the gasket can go all by itself
without any help from an overheat.
Changing the head gasket, only, may not lead to a robust motor. The block, or the head, could be warped; or the spot where the gasket gave way could be eroded. It takes a straight edge made for checking such things to know.
It is not hard to pull the motor, but there are lots of hoses and connections that need to be carefully tagged so that you get them back where they belong.

I worked on it for a few minutes the other day. It really is not that hard thus far... I am sure it will be later .. Not as many hoses as I thought either..
Couple questions: Will it affect the truck to just disconnect all the egr bull and use blockoff plates?
And is there a site where I can get a good gasket kit?

I have always bought my Toyota head gaskets from the dealer.
My usual source for other parts has been www.autohausaz.com.
Autohaus does carry OEM head gaskets. These should be fine.
Autohaus has never supplied me with the wrong part...
I haven't taken the emissions related parts off my motor,
so I can't respond with authority on this issue. I'm sure
that some one who has might be willing to comment.

Thanks guy I appreciate it... Yah I am in knoxville so emissions are not an issue for me at all.. Does anybody want to give out their number to a random stranger when I run into an issue?

Where's your friend who blew your HG? Shouldn't he be helping?
I bought a 3vze that PO blew a head gasket in racing his boss up a mountain. He drove it back home too. It's got 33s, and it's a complete dog. PO swears up and down that it used to turn the 33s like they were nothing. He says it's never been the same since the HG blew. All he did was have the gasket replaced. Now it ticks from everywhere. I'm about to replace the heads and do a crank kit with pistons to see if I can quiet it down and get some stock power back out of it. Don't just do the HG...you'll regret it.

It's a long story to summarize it he works at fast food has no vehicle and somehow ed up a thermostat install so I am not sure even if he were willing I would let him help me honestly...
mine has 31s on it and it used tos pin them fine.....
and I plan to take the heads to a machine shop to make sure there is no warping,etc..... If I see anything in the cylinders I will just pullt he motor... It had great oil pressure still (40-60 psi ) so I am sure it has not spun any bearings or anything.
