Engine Swap: Gas to Diesel
So recently I had the opportunity to drive my friends new diesel pickup. ridiculously fun to drive. It got me thinking, why not put a diesel engine into my truck.
So I guess my question is: What diesel engine and can I use the transmission that I have in the truck right now (a R-150F 5 speed attached to the 3VZE)

search around some. There is a whole section of the forum discussing this.
There is also a good post on here about swapping in a VW diesel, but Flash. Comparable power to a 22re I guess. Or you can go with a Factory Toyota diesel. I've heard they are easier to come by in Canada. I'd like one here, but I doubt that'll ever happen. . .
Check out 4x4labs.com. They are doing Mercedes diesel swaps.
The 5.9 Cummins is a GREAT Motor, but it is WAY to much Weight and size for a Yota!!!
Good Luck and keep us posted as to what you decide. We'd like to see where you go with this!
Also, what kinda diesel does your buddy have?

My buddy has an '03 Dogde 3500 with the 5.9L Cummins HO Turbo. It is a pretty sick truck.
And yes, 'yota diesels are much easier to come by in Canada. I see them all the time where I live
Anyways, I, too want to see where this goes, so I am building a budget for this project. Trying to figure out what engine and see if I need a new tranny or can use the one I have.
Will defiently check out the German vehicles tho. Apparently you can get a million km out of an older VW golf diesel, decent power too
Thanks,
Vic

if you like the power of that 5.9 6BT cummins..then get a 3.9 4BT cummins...comparable in power with the 1st gen dodge diesels..they had like...140hp and like 2??lb ft of torque..the 4bt stock has 109hp and like 2??lb ft of torque..but with the turn of a few screws on the motor 200hp and over 400lb ft of torque can be achieved..and its not a hard swap..at least thats what i've heard..lol..only bad thing is..it weighs somethin like 800lbs..or 700lbs..now you COULD do an SAS and use the heavy duty front springs.LMAO!..thats a GREAT excuse to do an SAS..."sweetheart the diesel motor i put in the yota weighs to much..soooooo i gotta throw a solid axle under it..shouldnt be more than few thousand bucks..LMAO!"
if i ever do a motor swap..its going to be diesel...IF i can find a 4bt cummins...lol can you imagine coming out of a store with a NIIICE 3rd gen pickup sittin next to an older 2nd gen or maybe another 3rd gen..and yall get to talkin and you fire your up and its a BA diesel..it would BLOW HIS MIND..HAHAHAHA..and you could beat all the lil ricers..hahahaha
you MIGHT want to upgrade to the R151F or maybe even an NV4500..along with a more heavy duty T-case..
axles are another thing..BUT if a stock toyota axle can handle a 600hp 7mgte with 35's then it should be able to handle the 4bt..lol
mmm...diesel purrrrrrrrr...through a 3.5" exhaust and out dual 5IN. Bull hauler stacks................. CATCH ME NOW RICERS!!!!!
