Can I make my door locks automatically lock when I start driving?
I try and remember to always lock my doors once I get underway, but I occasionally notice that I forgot and it bugs me to no end. Is there a way to set the locks to automatically lock when I start to drive? (And definitely not automatically unlock when I stop - that would bug me more!)
I've got a 1999 4runner, base package with remote keyless entry.

Im thinking maybe a relay between the locks and the ignition, but im not good with electrical, so hopefully someone can chime in..

Yeah, you keep popping up, Scuba. I guess the bubbles always rise to the top - whatever that means.
For what it's worth, my doors automatically unlock like they're supposed to if the door is open, the key is in the ignition, and I press the lock button.

That would be nice to have.
My previous '95 4Runner w/ factory keyless entry did just that. As soon as I cranked it, all the doors locked automatically. If a door was open when the vehicle cranked, that door would not lock (even if you manually tried to lock it). When I turned the vehicle off, just the front doors unlocked. It was great...a lazy man's dream. Really missed that feature when I stepped up to 3rd gens.
Wish I could actually help with your situation. Just thought I'd let you know it is possible.

our 2000 4runner did that and i reprogrammed it to NOT do that.
we have the stock alarm and the instructions are in the manual.
i think we have a CARR system... unfortunately, i haven't been able to find the manual as i want to return it to starting/locking mode - doh!

Mine doesn't do that but all 4Runners will unlock if the key is in the ignition and you aren't sitting in the driver's seat, that's done so you can't lock your keys in the car if they are in the ignition.

Wow you actually want that?, I find that the most annoying feature ever on newer cars. I hate unlocking the doors every time I want to get out....my2 cents

Keeping your doors locked at all times is the best way to prevent that sort of thing.
