Heh... funny...

You can run a flowmaster 40 and cut off the tailpipe a few inches after the muffler. Its got a deep, load growl.

I use a flowmaster 50 and turn down pipe (about 4") and its pretty loud. I'm used it it now.. Here's a sound clip:

just less backpressure to the engine, if you consider that a problem.

Like loss of power, mileage, possible head damage?

I think certain older GM vehicles could do better without the cat or muffler, but, with newer trucks I wouldn't do this at all for several reasons!!

Kill 2 birds with one stone and throw a set of headers on; it will open up that s/c and give you a little more rumble at the same time.

Edit: not as easy as "throwing" them on though....

check your emissions laws!.. my county here in Ga a cat is a requirement, it will fail if I take it out. but im kicking around the idea of chopping my pipe a few inches after the exhaust.. itll make it louder, wont hurt the engine? and i can wels it back on if I need to then i can put in a flowmaster when i get money.

get some headers and after the mufflers put larger pipes on it and you will get a nice deep noise

just unbolt the exhuast between the cat and muffler and see if you like the sound, thats what i did, and people say it sounds a little ricer like but i didnt really feel like the spending the money at the time, and i think it sounds better than the stock exhaust haha

if you don't care about emissions then take your cat out and leave the stock muffler, it will be somewhat louder and still deep and clean sounding
