Controlling an A340F/A343F transmission
Hello,
I know you always use to do the opposite, but I'm considering swapping my manual for an auto transmission.
My truck it's a 3.0 Turbo Diesel, with intercooler, rebuilt and tuned pump, rebuilt injectors and a big mandrel bend exhaust. It has a lot of power now, moves the 35's with 4.88's better than the stock tires+gears.
I can buy from the UK the flywheel, torque converter, transmission and bellhousing from a 3.0TD Hilux Surf, so I'm sure it will fit my truck, but a difference between the UK diesels and mine is that since the UK ones are EFI (1KZ-TE) mine is mechanical injection (1KZ-T), so I don't have any ECU...
Is there any way I can control the auto transmission? I've seen those kits from AW Shifting but I'm not sure if they can manage the gearbox for themselves, I mean when you apply the brakes, etc. Sequential driving would be nice too, but have the possibility of switching between auto and sequential opperation would be very very sweet.
I've seen the Powertrain Control Solutions modules but price it's very steep.

Would a module from PCS allow me to control the A343F (Almost the same as the A340F) trans behind an engine that has no electronics? I've the rpm and speed signals available of course... Will that module allow me to drive it like an auto and switch to sequential if I want to?
Anyone knows a different way to control a Toyota auto trans?

The guy from AW Shifting should be able to tell you for sure about manually controlling it. (my gut feeling is no) As far as full auto shifting I don't see how it would be possible without the brains of the factory ECU plugged in. But with some sweet paddle shifters who needs the full auto control functional anyway.

Maybe you could plug in a factory ECU just for that tranny and get an electrical genus to make a blackbox simulator to generate the normal required sensor inputs. Wire up the power and ground wires for the tranny ECU and tap the rpm signal from the engine. Basiclly run with 2 ECUs, one for the engine and one for the tranny. I don't know if it would work, but there is hope from this observer. Let us know if you get it figured out. Good luck
