3VZE exhaust 'tick'...

Is there an agreement of what the best way to silence the infamous tick? Perhaps just switching oil brands will be enough, but my new-to-me '95 with 300k (~187k miles) has a rather loud exhaust tick compared with my '91 480k (295k miles) 3VZE.

Different oil? Synthetic? Replace the lifters? Headers cracked? I searched quickly but came up with nothing relevant.

is it an injector tick or a head gasket/manifold leak tick? one is normal the other is well normal too but a lot more expensive to fix.

the injectors are notorious for the ticking. not sure if there is much you can do to quiet it down. there is a seal for around the steering shaft at the firewall that wears out and allows the noise to enter the passenger compartment. check and see if yours needs replacing.

Hmm... Good call on the steering shaft gasket. I remember it on my '91 when I did the body lift, she was worn right out. Actually was getting mud up on my feet!

It sounds like an exhaust tick, but I haven't had a chance to get in there with a stethoscope yet. All the 3VZEs that I've heard have it, but mine seems to be just a touch louder than "normal".

I like my street trucks to be as silent as possible. The rig, hahaha... if it's not making noise it means I stalled it

Can someone describe this tick to me? I have one that only hits at about 2700-3000rpm, goes away as soon as you get out of that range, and sounds like a plastic rattle. This is on my 3VZE.

it could be the poor design of the stock manifold...it really resticts the exhaust and could cuase ticking
