Need to replace muffler and tail pipe
I've got a 3.0 in my 95 truck. I apologize for being long winded, but I have to tell what happened.
My Story:
So about two months ago, I noticed that my truck was smoking from underneath when I would first start it up on a cold day. I came to the conclusion it’s just exhaust but about the same amount that was coming out the tail was also coming from underneath. I noticed smoke coming out of the join between the pipe that joins to the two into one ( I am assuming this is the Y pipe) and the pipe before the cat (any gasket there?). About a month ago I noticed I had a hole in my muffler now too and the tail pipe tip was pretty rusty. This afternoon I figured I'd take a look underneath and seem how everything was. I thought to myself, "I could have sworn the tail pipe was on this side...”. So I go around to the other side and nothing there either! I check underneath and the whole tail pipe was gone from the muffler back.
My Questions:
I plan on taking it into a muffler shop around here. I just want a good quality muffler, and as for sound I just don't want it sounding like a ricer, If anything, possibly deeper tone than a stock one, but not very loud. I also will need a new tailpipe. I have read tons of posts hear about mufflers etc and Magnaflow, Dyomax, Flowmaster etc.. seem to be the better ones. How much do you figure a shop will charge for the new pipe, a decent muffler (like a brand mentioned above), and possibly to fix leaks along the remaining pipe? Will an average shop be able to put a new pipe in like the stock one was (so it comes out after the driver side wheel, on the side)? By the way, I don't have any connections and I'm not very mechanically inclined.
Thanks in advance. (I will try get a pic up of what it looks like)

I don't think I need a glasspack haha, but would be neat. Thats an idea 'Belize Off Road Team', but I don't think it is for me, I prefer the pipe coming out the side, but what size pipe do you have there ? I'll definitly consider the magnaflow Allstar, but I don't want to be spending too much money, I just need eveything to be working and be good quality.

I just have a cherry bomb instead of the muffler, and no tailpipe. It sounds pretty deep and loud. I like it. There are no leaks either. Same engine as yours.

I don't know about Ontario but here in MA USA we have to have the exaust a good distance behind the rear most opening window ( I think 15 inches) or to the back of the vehicle. It's state law and will not pass inspection otherwise. Also we have to be carefull about how loud it is. I think a cherry bomb muffler would sound pretty nice with a low note, not at all loke a ricer. Don't cconfuse a cherry bomb muffler with a cherrybomb glasspack. The muffler is a lot richer sound. Well good luck. Too bad about the 3.slow because even with a good exaust it won't have a lot of power.

I'm not so much worried about a beefier sound as much as I am about quality(and price). Depending on prices the Walker Dynomax sounds like it will be closest to what I'm looking for. Thanks everyone for all the input and suggestions. I am gonna do some calling around in the next few days and hopefully get some quotes.

FYI: I replaced my exhaust from the cat back for only $119 from the DEALER. Went to NAPA for the rubber hangers; TONS cheaper than the dealer on those. No issues, sounds good.

I just finished calling a couple places, and heres what I got:
Place 1
Magnaflow muffler(they didn't have walker/dynomax) installed $150
75$ new tailpipe 'custom bent'(i just want it like stock was)
Total: approx. $225 CAD
Place 2
Tailpipe and muffler installed $198.17 CAD
muffler brand is Gorlick? exhaust
So, does anyone have any knowledge about this gorlick brand? I'm not sure if thats how you spell it but, I couldn't seem to find a webpage.

Well, I took the plunge and I took my truck into a place to get a new tailpipe, brakets, and new muffler installed. I decided to go with a non performance exhaust, because I did't want to attrack any attention and keep it looking (and sounding) stock, that brand was Gorlick and its very quiet (has a lifetime warranty on the muffler so it can't be too bad). Before taxes it cost about $185, after taxes $209. The service at this place was great IMO, they drove me to my destination and were freindly. I didn't get a look at the new parts much, but it looks professional and rust free again! Thanks guys for helping me with another investment
