Battery size question
I need a new battery, and I was looking at walmart at the everstart max batteries. they dont seem to carry the group 24 batts, but they say in their book that a group 25 is the upgrade. will a group 25 fit without any issues? will the holddown need to be shimmed or anything?

A group 25? No, no and no. You need the following battery: Group 24 series, period.
Thats what fits, thats whats OEM and thats what ya need. Wallyworlds book is totally wrong. I sell and install batteries for a living, trust me, 24 series..
A 34 will fit if the terminals line up, but not a good idea. Same battery but terminals and height differ from 24.

Almost all toyotas take
Trucks and suv 24/34 (same battery reversed terminals and one is taller)
Cars are 35/24/34, some take a group 25 or 26. Really old late 80's and very early 90's
And some older lexus take 27..
Group 28 doesnt exist.. http://www.evdl.org/pages/bcigroup.html b/c thats the uniform battery chart..

Sorry to bump an old post. Just came across this in google, and had to respond to some disturbingly incorrect information....
Uh, yes, group 28 DOES EXIST, and it's even in that very chart you posted.
Group 28 is heavy-duty commercial and has the same form factor as group 24, only difference is a group 28 is 1/2" taller, which is not an issue.
And would you care to please explain why you think a group 25 wouldn't work? The only difference between the two is a Group 25's length is about 1" shorter then a Group 24, which would not be an issue.
No, all he needs is any battery that fits and provides the rated capacity required. Ignoring any "speciality or custom" battery tray/holder assemblies, there are many other batteries besides a Group 24 that will work just fine.
Would you please tell me where so I know to "never go there".
Group 28? There aint no such battery, I have ever seen or heard of.

batteries are superceeded by advances in technology... thus making one specific "height/width/depth" battery obsolete because the next size 'shorter/narrower/smaller' battery can meet the previous series' needs.
that should cover all the questions you posed.

and a simlilar foot-print does not mean a certain height battery offers more, or less, capacity than the other.
Someone is disturbingly "not" familiar with batteries.

I only get my batteries through Wal-Mart anymore. They are a few dollars cheaper & they are just as good as anything else out there (after all, there not made by Wal-Mart) Also have a 3 year free replacement warranty + the pro-rate after that. I always check the date sticker just so I know it's a fresh battery.

I always get walmart batteries too and I don't remember ever looking up in a chart to see what fit. I just get the largest CCA battery that will fit that has the terminals I need. I've been doing it that way for 20 years and never had a problem.
Some of you guys over think the simplest things.
