polishing wheels
I picked up a set of limited wheels today to replace my sr5 ones with the flaking clear coat. The new wheels are spotty and the glare changes on the spots......didn't looks so bad in his dark garage! Any ways to help them or is it stuck that way? thought that getting them powdercoated black but that may be mucha $$.

I spose if you polished hard enough with steel wool and some wicked polish you could take the clear coat off unifromly and it wouldn't look too bad, would produce an amazing shine, but when the light hits is jut right it'll shine a little I had to go this route on my b2200

the clear on my wheels was coming off so i stripped it all off with some "aircraft coating remover" in an spray can. i found it at a paint shop or at the autozone too. it's nasty stuff so don't get it on your skin, breathe it in, or get it on any painted or plastic surface you don't want ruined. took the clear off really well. once i got it all off i used a product calle Wenol, an electric drill, and a cotton wheel to polish the aluminum. one problem though, if you don't re-clear with something good, the shine won't last unless you keep polishing. i used some very mild cleaner and soap on my wheels afterwards and it dulled and streaked them. i would suggest not using duplicolor clear, didn't work for me. i did like the POR 15 clearcoat product though, hard as nails but a bit hard to get a nice coat on unless you have a paint gun/sprayer.
that's my $.02, good luck
