22RE emissions equipment removal
I have searched all over the place and I have found no info on it other then people mentioning it. Does anybody have any info on it? Also, I reside in an area that does not require emissions testing but I will still be running some sort of high flow cat if it matters to anyone.

Honestly, there isn't much there, and what there is helps the engine run better. EGR keeps the combustion temps down.
I wont go into the obvious detrimental environmental effects, but I'll sum it up by saying there aren't really any benefits, and certainly none worth the increased emissions.
This isn't the 70s people. This isn't a 7.0L V8 making 160HP due to early primitive smog equipment. They pretty much had the kinks out by this point.

Ditto on leaving it there. The newer EFI systems work well with the smog stuff in place and there's no real gain offered by removing it. In fact, you may actually hurt performance and mileage by removing it because it will confuse the EFI computer and force it into a limp mode.

Well, back pressure is very important to an exhaust system. If there is a lack the scavenging effect does not occur like it should and you lose power. Do you still have a cat and the rest of the stock exhaust? If so you are probably fine but remember a cherry bomb is around $20 at Pep Boys.
