Thanks for the offer to trace your wiring. I just bought my 4runner a couple months ago and I have been fixing it up a bit. I have a constant CEL that I decided to address. Was going to check the 02 sensor when I realized that it is not attached to anything. The sensor just has about 8" of wiring and a plastic plug that was tucked up under a heat shield. There is no other wiring anywhere in the area!??

I'm trying to figure out what happened. Maybe it all got ripped out wheeling? Anyway - the main ECU wiring harness goes to a bunch of different sensors etc. and the fuel injectors. Just under the intake manifold there the ECU wiring harness has a plug that isn't attached to anything. It is pointed toward the rear of the truck so I thought maybe this was where the missing wiring for the 02 sensor is. I think the wires in the harness are Black/grey stripe and Black.

If you could describe the way your wiring goes that would be awesome.

I'll have you something in a couple hours...probably around late morning or early afternoon...got several errands to run first this morning to get parts/doodads for my 85. But I'll definitely getcha what ya need, if someone else doesn't know first and reply...I'll check back later.

The harness comes down beside the transmission on the driver side, and is attached to the transmission with a clamp at the transmission/transfer case flange - then follows the crossmember over to the o2 sensor. 4 wires.
My book say 22re colors are Green/Yellow, Brown, Black/Yellow, Black. (Doesn't matter - it will be the only single harness on that side with 4 wires.)

Thanks to everyone for the help. Unfortunately I am an idiot. The truck is an '87 so I think the info you have for me for an '88 must be different. I'm sorry for wasting your time.

I think I'm going to have to hear back from the Wabbit on this one as my sensor is 1 wire. I have nothing like what the others described. The only wiring anywhere around the transmission are for two sensors that are in the transmission.

Waskillywabbit - If you could trace that wire back and tell me where it connects to the ECU wiring harness and what color it connects to that would be very helpful as it seems you and I have the same setup.

Send me an email, or post yours, and I'll send you the correct diagram.
87 4 cyl. injected or not??

The 87 seems to have just a single lead from the o2 sensor that plugs into slot #7 on the Emissions Control computer. Only one wire is required, as the O2 sensor grounds itself via the exhaust pipe.
