XM RADIO - (Awesome)

I don't know if any of you have a satellite radio, but my wife bought me one for Christmas and I just got done mounting it in the old beast & activating it! It's awesome, no commercials just music -130 channels! No more chit chat on way to and fro work! I have the XMRADIO SkyFi! It's very user friendly and easy to mount/set up! $10.00 a month, it's definetly worth it! Especially if your a big music buff like I. Everything from Rock to Jazz to country!

Hey don't get me wrong! I like HS (Howard Stern), but I'd rather listen to some ROCK or some Blues any day of the week! Maybe now I can pick up My Raiders and listen to them Lose! It is awesome though! Take care!

NFL is only on Sirius also but if I go satellite I'll have to look a littel closer before I decide which one to go with.

Just to put my .02 cents in but Howard is old, and not as funny as he was 10yrs ago. If you do go XM tryout Opie&Anthony, you will be very suprised. I've been listening to them for a good 4-5yrs and never looked back. I guess I'm pretty bias though too, since they both grew up a couple miles from where I did here on Long Island. If you want to laugh a bit or check out them out for free here (simple site but does the job) it has there live stuff back before they were sent to radio pergatory (forced off the air for a stunt but kept to there contracts so they couldn't go anywhere else).

They are the only radio I ever listen to, and the reason I have XM. Only radio I have ever heard that made me laugh till I cried.

Nice gift! I love my XM. Beyond Jazz is really good, and the hardcore comedy channel is funny as hell.

I just bought a Sony H.U. and it only gets XM radio. Hopefully, there will be an adaptor available at some point so I can listen to the STEELERS win !

What is a PA guy doing listening to the Raiders anyway Heck, if you are in eastern part of the commonwealth you could even listen to the Eagles win .

I guess the main point is if you had SIRIUS you could be ANYWHERE and listen to your favorite NFL team.

Does sat. radio lose reception like *!#% cell phones or is the signal transmitted differently?

You could always run Sirius _and_ XM!

Actually... The HU may have XM smarts in it, but there's nothing stopping you from ignoring it and running Sirius though an FM modulator. If you ever decided that there was something on XM that you wanted, then you could activate it as well and run both.

The problem is there, but it's different. Cell phone technology is set up so that "line of sight" to the antenna isn't really necessary, you just have to be within range. Sat radio _requires_ line-of-site to the satellite, which means that if a building gets between you and the sat, then the signal will drop out.

To combat this, both XM and Sirius have terrestrial (ground based) transmitters that do a good (but not perfect) job in most major downtown areas. What becomes an issue is when you go through a tunnel, or are out 4-Wheeling in the trees, then you'll drop the signal.

The upside is that you will usually have sat radio reception when you _don't_ have cell reception (like at the top of a mountain, or out in the middle of the desert).
