Sub/Amp compatibility

OK for my new setup i'm going to be running 2 Kicker S12L7's dual 4ohm
For the amp I was thinking a Power Acoustik A1800DB . would this combo work?

I'm assuming it would as the subs handle 750w RMS each and it says the amp will put out 1400w RMS @ 1ohm which should work. my only question is some places say the amp is 1 ohm stereo others say 1 ohm mono other just say 1 ohm. Don't know too much about the whole ohms thing so that why i'm asking. This combo should be putting 700w to each sub if I am correct. Soemone who knows please chime in (BumpinYota...)

its a class D mono amp so its made to be used with subs

since you have (2) dual 4 ohm subs you can wire them down to one ohm which will pull the 1400watts RMS from that amp..

that should work out fine..just make sure you have well built box..that is a lot of power and will EASILY destory a cheap pre-fab box.

My two alpine type R 12s destroyed a Q-logic box..you should hear that thing rattle and leak air..

with that sub\amp combo and a good box..that setup should make your rear view mirror impossible to see out of

Sorry I left ya there on AIM, my ex girlfriend called...lol

Anyhoo I think that PA amp will work well, just gotta be really wary of clipping it. IIRC they have a clip light to let you know if and when it does. Even still I would not hold onto that amp very long given my experience with those amps. Maybe 8months to a year tops. I used 4 pa 2100d's for a while waaaay back in the day. Inside of about 6 months of railing on em, they started going into protect....grrr

I dont know if the new ones have that issue or not, but personally I think you'd be better off with a mtx 81000d or 1501d. Those are only stable to 2ohm officially, but they will have no issues with 1ohm either. I used to rail on mine at 0.7dcr all day long....and they NEVER had any issues

But for the short term, that is a good amp that will get the job done. Make sure you feed it 1/0 power and ground and use an ANL fuse size of about 150amps.

great advice in the last post... dont skimp on box or wiring, or batteries, or alternators....
and i second the recommendation for the mtx1501d... awesome amp, bought mine about 2 years ago, beat it hard at 1ohm, sold after year, friend now has it and it is still being used hard, hasnt had an issue at all

Yeah im buildin my own box and i've built abotu 10+ so i know what im doing just first time building a ported box. Got materials yesterday and gonna get goin this weekend.
-I look into the MTX when I get a sec. My main concern would be price.
-I'll be running 0 guage and i had a quesiton abotu that too. whats the best way to run the wire since its so huge?
-I was planning on buying an optima redtop, had one in my last car and it seemed to keep everything goin well.
-as far as alternators... dont know much about the 4runner yet(mechanically) will the alternator be ok? would it be worth buying a new one right now? or just running the stock one until i kill it then replacing it.

do NOT use a red top!!!!!! Go with a blue or a yellow, but DEFINATELY not a Red top. A red top will die inside of 8 months if your electrical system is overtaxed, which a 1+ kW rms amp WILL do.

As far as running 1/0, you are going to have to drill holes and use grommets. So the easiest way is to cover the 1/0 in loom, then I like to cover the loom with a layer of electrical tape, then run it under the vehicle to the rear cargo area, then drill and place the grommet there. A properly selected grommet will be water tight if you use a little silicon.

ive always had good luck when installing amps ive always found unused holes in the firewalls i used one to install 4ga wire in my 4runner and it was big enough to use 1/0 wire
