Speaker Replacement. '91 4runner

Just for reference regarding the rear speakers. The stock rears that I have were 4.75 inches. Not a source anywhere that I could find that stocks anything close. I installed some 5.25 infinity speakers, but needed to trim down the stock speaker boxes to fit them. Its a pretty neat install by sawing off the top portion that mounts the stock speakers flush with the box surface (shown here - note removing the metal mounting brackets makes this a lot easier).
The 5.25 " speakers then fit really nicely in the opening that remains.
And mounted back in the panel there is plenty of space, as the speaker is a bit more recessed than the stock install.

Another thread revival These are exactly the pics I needed to see. My rough plan is double din stereo with whatever nice front speakers I can find that fit, then rears just like knussear did. Amps of course, and It looks like I can fit a pair of 8” subwoofers in the storage compartments behind rear speakers too

Glad these are of use. Note there is some sort of amp in each of the rear speaker boxes already. I was originally going to add an amp, but never found an easy spot to place one. Interested to see where you put yours.
