match a sub to these specs.

alright guys. since the audio section is so droll, im gonna start throwin out random challenges and such. see if we cant jack up this section.

alpine mono amp, 450 watts rms. its going to be playing with 5x7 polk componets in front and 5x7 polks in back. head unit is a high class alpine, not completely sure of the type. im going to be listening to a lot of techno, bass music, rap, and rock, but i want a solid all around sub. something with serious bass, but something that can play clean with the speakers too.

any takers?

Sony subs should never be an option. Ever.
Lemme see what I can come up with...

Outstanding sub in every regard, but I'm not sure about best bang for the buck, since they are rather pricey for the good ones.

I would have to say get a Phoenix Gold RSD sub. they come in 10" and 12" sizes and either single or dual voice coils. You can get them cheap on Ebay and they have gotten very good reviews. Go to phoenixphorum.com and search for the RSD 10 and 12.

I will second the JL Audio subs. They have excellent sound, and quality. But if cost is an object, I would consider going with a lesser sub. I think their 12 incher is a W7 or something like that. Please correct me if I am wrong.

JL currently offers a 12" sub in W1, W3v.2, W3v.3, W6 and W7, as well as a few 13" woofers.

x2 on Infinity. I have done back to back comparisons between JL and Infinity and Infinity blew JL out of the water running from the same power, same head, same CD..

Infinity makes GREAT subs.

Alpine makes great subs also, and i think will cater a little bit more toward what you are looking for.

BTW

If you dont know much about box building email Bumpin' Yota and see if he can build and design a box for you. His boxes are AMAZING.

I run a complete PHOENIX GOLD SYSTEM in my 4runner and have nothing but good to say about them but outside of the westcoast they for some reason are not known. I moved out here to Maryland but lived not far from there plant in Portland thats how I have known about them for 10 years. I would highily recommend them to him but if your not west coast most peole have no clue about them and I seen JL Auido 10's on sale at Best buy or Circut city for like 150 a 10" and thats within his budget.

my view on alpines are pretty low. they might get loud, but its too bassy and doesnt have any feel for me. i just dont like how they sound.

as far as the pheonix subs ,never heard of them, never seen them, never heard them play, but certainly not going to throw them out because of that.

infinity subs are pretty nice. i do like their normal speakers too. iv installed infinty referance speakers in my moms mini-van and my dads old maxima in the front just as a nice replacement speaker for the blown to pieces stock paper junk.

rockford fosgate. ive got a 10 right now, p2,and it does sound nice. however, im lookin for a little more. same quality, better if possible, but louder with some more oompf and the ability to drop a little lower without sounding gravely.

my conclusion was that a polk 15" would match pretty close to what im running powerwise, and would certainly throw down some oompf, but as far as it taking up space... i would have to build a custom set up so i could still use my backseat as passenger room.

You could run a single Infinity Kappa Perfect 10" or 12" sub.

they take 400watts RMS so 450 wouldnt be pushing them too hard.

What is the model of your amp? You need to get the sub with proper voice coils so you dont damage the amp and or sub.
