85 4runner stereo help.

just got a 4runner and im trying to put in a new deck. problem is that i cant match up the wires in the right way cuz its not turning on. im not worried about the speakers cuz i started fresh with that. but im trying to find where the yellow wire from the new deck connects. i am assuming the red from the new deck goes with the red with a green stripe from the stock wires. but that leaves me a black, a white with a black stripe, and a solid green.

so long story short i need it to work. i can start fresh with everything but i dont know how to run the yellow constant and the red accessory.

so any help answering either of the following 2 questions would be greatly appreciated.

1. from the stock wires, which wire is accessory and which is constant?

2. how can i wire the accessory wire from scratch?

You need to get the volt meter out and check the wires. Or you could go to a parts store and get a cheap 12 volt test light. Best automotive electrical troubleshooting tool ever.

well according to the manual that came with my new deck, the yellow line is constant 12v and the red is accessory power yours might be that same. kinda dumb if you ask me but thats what it says. so i will run the yellow to the battery and try running the red to the cig lighter. hopefully it will work im gonna go get a 12v test light and go at it cuz i want to hear some music!

this should be the colors for the wires in your sttering column. remove the column cover to expose them. if you cant find your constant and switched at the radio these will work.

12volts white - white/red + ignition harness
Starter black/white or black + ignition harness
Ignition black/yellow + ignition harness
Second Ignition blk/yel or blk/red + ignition harness
Accessory blue/red + ignition harness

these are the colors you will need if you can find everything in the radio harness.

Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Blue/Yellow or Blue/Black
Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Gray
Car Radio Ground Wire: Brown
Car Radio Illumination Wire: Green
Car Stereo Dimmer Wire: N/A
Car Stereo Antenna Trigger Wire: N/A
Car Stereo Amp Trigger Wire: N/A
Car Stereo Amplifier Location: N/A
Car Audio Front Speakers Size: 4″
Car Audio Front Speakers Location: Dash
Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Pink
Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Purple
Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Green
Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Blue
Car Audio Rear Speakers Size: 5 1/4″
Car Audio Rear Speakers Location: Side Panels
Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Black
Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Yellow
Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Red
Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): White

also check to make sure your fuses are all good. aer your interior lights and cig lighter working?
