1992 xtra cab audio rear speaker problems

hello all

working on the audio system of my '92 extra cab. the previous owner had a boom-boom bass amp and somewhat sloppy messy wiring so i removed all the aftermarket stuff and want to go back to stock

i'm having problems with the rear speakers however. the head unit (i forget the brand right now) works fine on radio and CD on the front speakers but i can't get the rears to do anything (they are now wired through the OEM wiring). right now the head unit is powered through these plugs through one of those adapters that make connecting the head unit to the factory wiring easy.

there are two things that don't make sense to me right now:

1) the toyota amp (like this one is currently bypassed. do i need the amp? this head unit seems to have good specs (which is why i never understood the amp setup by the previous owner). the two plugs currently going to the head unit fit into the amp but i would have to cut+solder the connections because i don't have a connector for the 'out' clip to the head unit

2)EDIT: dome light fixed - still no power to rear speakers though, not with CD or radio

any ideas would be very appreciated, thanks

ok, after searching and reading around i solved both problems. i got the dome light back on and i figured out how to power the rear speakers (the trick was the infamous remote wire that brings power to the rear in-speaker amp)

right now i'm still bypassing the toyota amp - do i need it? i have 40W out of the Eclipse head unit and the sound is OK. i would at least like to try the stereo with the factory amp but i have no idea of its specs (this is what i have - is it worth adding? like i said, i don't want bass but i would like a little more volume and clarity. right now the fronts sound pretty crappy (and they are fairly nice aftermarket speakers). any ideas? thanks

more questions on the factory amp: reading around i found this thread saying that the factory amp gets bypassed with an aftermarket HU, is that right? thanks
