I just finished my 3.4 swap and decided to make my own tube bumper to custom fit my 3in body lift. This is my first bumper so it will be fun. i am not going to bend any of the tubing so it will all be miter cut. sort of a boxy type and will accomodate for a winch, license plate, blinkers and trail lights. I am going to start on it tonight so feel free to follow along and give tips or take some my pipe gets in on thursday but i have my steel plate to get me started. Enjoy.

I made mine as well with no bends in it. A winch mounting bracket is to be made once i get a winch. I dont have any pics of it being made but its on my rig in my pictures. Its very time consuming and takes much patience! good luck! excited to see how it turns out

Ok and here is the platform for my winch and my brackets all cut and drilled. Do a little fitting and welding tomorow and ill be ready for my pipe

So here is the winch platform and how it sits on my truck.. if anyone wants a shot of how it is off the truck id be happy to do that but i just assume show what it will be like.. i will have a front support for it once i get my pipe but until then thats how it goes. Now its just a dreadful wait till Thursday when my pipe comes in.

thanks yea im stoked unfortunately i dont have the resources that some have so this will be a fairly dirty build but where i dont have the tools i have the ideas to make it without haha. this whole bumper is costing me 61.83 to build and i would post the desight but its just written in pencil on scratch paper but I think yall will like it

you need more bracing than those two bolts...
wheres the stock mounting tabs on top of the front xmember?

well yea thats why i was asking if anyone wanted to see it with it off, i have those 2 bolts and the i have pins dropping in from the top into the crossmember.. and then once i have the tubing ill put 2 supports for the front as well. plus for the 91 there are only 2 stock mounting tabs and they are on the very ends of the cossmember there facing opposite eachother

Well, 4 bolts definitely won't be safe..
Find a way to incorporate it into the front body mounts..
Pretty sure thats the way they did it stock.
Then use the bottom 4, and then you should have some on the side as well.

haha thanks for your concerns but it will be safe.. it will have 4 bolts and then it will be secured in the front having two pipes welded on and going back being bolted straight onto the main frame mounts. having it connected to the front body mounts will do nothing, all it is is sheet metal.. i may attatch it just to help keep it balanced but as far as helping with the strain, the body mounts would not help at all

And thats it There are many things with it i would change and do better but ill save that for the next time around.. for it being my first one im pretty happy with it.

You have at least built something you like. Of course there are things you would change. It takes forever to settle with a design that sticks, that doesnt need changing.

I build bumpers for body-lifted trucks all the time, but I have been building bumpers for over 12 years too.

When you decide to give it another shot, there are a handful or areas that could use more strength. Don't let pride get in your way of a solid design. You can do it. But just try to take some advice when its given. The guy up toip who talked about safety is correct.

I am not going to knock your attempt. At least you tried, many don't. Thats good for me though, because those who don't build theres buy from guyus like me.
