I got my hoses and clamps.

The long piece will be cut into (4) 3" pieces.

Still waiting on the mandrel bends...

Looks like bending up flat stock for brackets just got easier:

Update on the mandrel bends - the place I ordered them from gave me some BS about them not having the die now. I cancelled the order and am getting the bends from the Road Race Engineering (same place I got the silicone hose). They are a great outfit.

I'll likely have them at the end of the week.

I've decided to make up a set for the stock AFM also for comparison purposes.

OK - so it turns out that there isn't any 2 3/4 mandrel bends availalble, so all of the intake plumbing will be 3" regardless of the AFM version.

Lots of room without the cruise actuator in there:

Got the mandrel bends today:

How about a big ol' deckplate for the 2nd Gens? (Thanks to BruceTS for the tip on the deckplate to use)

Now to sort out the box and filter.

The cruise will sit on a new custom bracket over top of the intake. The 1" BL makes this possible. Quite frankly, it never gets used, so I doubt I'd miss it if I left it out.

Cebby, so the 7MGE AFM is a direct replacement? That is just cool.

It plugs in, but I have yet to run it with the 7MGE AFM. It should eliminate alot of restriction if it will work. Nothing ventured nothing gained...

I can always substitute my old one in if the 7MGE model doesn't work right.

If it runs good, I plan to add an overbored TB and replace the "ill-conceived" crossover pipe with my own design (that will flow) out of stainless. My current downpipe is on it's last legs.

Thats looking good Mike. Are you mounting the ARB compressor in there too? DMG

I have an Extremeaire behemoth that is going where the stock intake is now. The tank is going above the rear axle (along with another Optima - only if I can't cram it in the engine bay...)

The steel supplier I was using got messed up by the flood - won't be opened back up until after Thanksgiving, so II need to find another in the meantime. Everytime I think I have time freeing up to work on the rig I get hammered with another (paying) project. Damn!!

do you know the other differences in the 7MGEs AFM?
I have found that a:
Cressida is 22250-42080 and 197100-3630 (roughly the years 89-92)
Supra is 22250-42030 and 197100-3300 (roughly the years 86-94)

I wonder how much of a difference these two AFM have.

Also looking more on Ebay: Theses other cars listed below, look like they use the same style of AFM, with the D style black plate. (others are square). I am not sure if these have any significance or not.
MR2 4AGE
Celica 87-89, 3SFE engine
Camry 88-91, V6 engine

I don't know the differences, just kind of starting to go at it from the standpoint of more flow. As posted above, the Cressida AFM I bought is a good bit bigger than the stock 3VZE model. I think the Supra model is very similar, might only have different mounts. After I get this prototype done, I'll explore the other units and figure out how they might all work. Thanks for the research!

Here's some slight progress from last night...

Figuring out the box with a large beckson deckplate, of course subject to change a few more times...

Fitting a plate and tube to the AFM. This will be drawn up to be cut on the waterjet (along with a thick rubber gasket) The plate will be oversized so it will be one piece when the hole is cut for the tube (I didn't have anything big enough on hand)

I've heard that the engine heat is what eventually kills the electric air compressors, if I were you I would look for a spot back in your rear cargo area or something for the compressor. Then you'd have plenty of room for second Optima.

That might be worth exploring. Since I changed to Royal Purple, my underhood temp has dropped significantly though. I can always fashion a little heat shield like the K&N FIPK Gen II intakes.

Are these compressors dying from them taking in warm air from the engine compartment or just the fact that it is in a hot ambient temp? I'm routing the compressor intake into the same airbox for the engine (can't imagine compressors like getting dunked either since they are drawing in air...)

Compressor inside the cargo is too loud for my tastes. Next to the tank underneath could work, but the I have doubts that it's life would be extended much being exposed to everything...

My 3.0 died (2nd HG). Instead of throwing good money after bad, I'm swapping in a 1UZFE. Let me see if I can locate the pics and I'll fix the links. I was using Monty Pics, but I have a new permanent host, so all the pic addresses changed..
