used japanese engines?
anyone here ever get one of these engines the old fartruk motor is getting very tired and will probably need replacement soon probably after this wheeling season. i'm just trying to figure out the best option for me...crate motor, used motor, rebuild.... here is the deal with my situation....
1) i have three kids a full time job other hobbies and i am about to start a building project with the house so needless to say i will be busy... so time is a very precious commodity
2) i have a good garage and lots of tools and i'm not poor.... but that time thing.....
3) did i mention that im going to very busy
ok just would love to here the general consensus on what the best idea is thanks in advance

I've had 2 of these used jap motors and both seem to run stronger then the 22r that they replaced. I believe the motors are 21r's but it's been a few years so I can't remember for sure. I had one in a '86 mini and the other was in an '84 4x. if I had to do it again I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. It's an excellent deal for the money!

I've always had great luck with those engines, after I blew up my first 3.4L I installed one. The engines that come from Japan usually have higher performance ratings compared to the USA counterparts.....

a strong running used motor is almost always more reliable than a rebuilt one(at least in my experience I know someone will disagree). Anouther option for you to look at would be to get one of the front clips from a hilux with a diesel in it since you said your not poor and all. heres the link
