Rear Locking Diff Swap ---is it possible

Hey Guys need some info,
Stoped in at my local junkyard looking for more spare parts for my 90 4runner, little odds and ends to restore it. Ran across a newer tacoma 96 or better with the trd stickers on it, so you know what that means yes rear diff locker so i am wondering is it possible to transplant existing gears, or swap the whole axel I have 4.10 now, but what does the locker come with? Is it worth all the trouble and is the locker electric or hydraulic operated. Will the rear suspension need to be mod. Info is much app.

P.S. Sorry about no update picks on the 3.4 swap school has been keeping me up lately havent had much time but May is coming close soon, I will keep you guys posted, not blowing smoke up your a.. close friend of mine is helping me that posts on this board check him out SandSman. 90 4runner 3.4L auto swap. .....rear lock diff....maybe....

Yes its possible, but u need to be able to modify the Diff housing some and add a couple studs. There is a write up somewhere on it, maybe the offroad.com pages, on exactly hoe to do it.

Found Answers....4x4 wire, and Off-Road.com

This guy wrote

http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/electric_locker/

"You need to swap the third member into a modified axle housing. Jim at www.inchwormgear.com can do the axle mod if you are uneasy (exchange). That's the way I went. Installing the locker was way easy. I think getting the locker wired up took the longest time and was the hardest part. If you can read a wire diagram you are ok. It really does make sense.

There were two ways to hook up the locker. One involved using relays, the other using a 5ohm resistor (actually a pair of 10ohm). The diagram says "optional" but I'm sure it's needed. The result without the resistor is the motor will move too fast and jam the gear in the lock position. I went this way.

It's an electric locker, not hydraulic. No suspension mods if you use your axle."

its just taking out the third member not the whole axel cool huh all we have to do kev is just rip that thing out of there.

The Tacoma has leaf springs in the back, and the 4Runners have coils. You'll probably have to do some extra fabbing to get that taken care of.

Also, I think the Taco axle is a little wider.
