We are in the process of installing front and rear E-lockers into an 85 X-cab. We have the ecu and switch for the rear, but nothing yet for the front. Did any Toyota's have the front locker switch? What application/year so we can order one.

I know the FZJ80 had one, but does it look like the RR Locker switch we have from a 4Runner

Hopefully we can do a writeup of the swap.

didn't the FJ80's have selectable difflock knob sort of like the 4x4 selector on newer fords? i was just going to use a rear locker switch for the front. how did you wire up your setup? factory harness from the locker to the ecm?

The FZJ80 locker dial looks nothing like the rear locker switch on the 4Runner. The only OEM front locker selector I have seen is the 80 series dial.

that dial actually looks pretty sweet, im surprised more people are swapping this into all the vehicles with front and rear arb's and front and rear elockers (for your solid axle guys)

I have one sitting in my garage for the dual ARBs...I just haven't gotten around to installing it.

I would still rather have two separate switches, makes it easier for troubleshooting problems, and probably makes for an easier install, and most toyota's will have the spaces already there for the "factory style" locker switches,

and worse case scenario, if that switch ever completely fails, then you might not be able to operate both lockers at the same time, as opposed to separate switches, where both switches would have to fail in order for you to be in that situation


Oh, and if the factory locker switches are anything like the "hazard" switch (they look very similar from what I've seen) you can just remove that little square part in the middle, like where the triangle for the hazard is, then if you want to get creative, you could probably change that "RR" to an "FR" or something,

I discovered this when I was trying to take apart my hazard switch for some reason, and I actually broke it because after I put it back together it didn't work anymore, so try and do this without taking the switch apart, it's got lots of little tiny pieces that don't like to go back together like they should

I have a FJ80 switch in my pile of crap at the shop that I'm not going to use...email me if you are interested. They are like $45 at the dealer IIRC.

just grab a RR diff lock switch, and either sharpie or paint in the first R so it looks like an F. BAM. insta FR diff lock switch

FTR, as stated, there has never been a front only diff lock switch. id also rather have them separate. good thing about the arb front is that its independent of H/L tcase position. same can apply for elockers if wired up properly.
