Paint peeling issue after emblem removal?
Thanks to everyone who helped me with my previous post. I am looking at a 2003 Sequoia but it has gold emblems. I thought I had read here that some of you have had paint peeling issues after you tried to remove your badges with a hair dryer and dental floss, but that this was limited to certain years. Is this true and what years was the problem limited to? I tried a search but I came up empty. Also, can anyone direct me to that thread
I like the truck but abhor the gold badging. When I bought my 4Runner, I removed all of the gold and spent an extra $225 to add the silver emblems. I was much happier.
Thanks for your help!

Mark,
I've removed several emblems on my 98 and 99 with no paint peeling problems.
Mark, let me introduce you to my friend. His name is eBay. $225?!?!?

Take your time and don't overdo and they should come off fine. Whatever you did last time should work just fine. I can see where the hairdryer might not soften the glue enough or alternately might locally weaken the paint.
Best thing I've found is to sacrifice the wax job. I use 20# test instead of dental floss and the cheapest plastic card in my wallet. Some sunny afternoon soak them with one of the many citrus degreaser/adhesive remover concentrates on the market. Wait 15 and do the dental floss/fishing line trick. Use the throwaway credit card after another short soak to get the tops of the biggest patches of glue left behind. Then just pull glue pull glue roll glue pull glue with the pad of your finger.
Decals I soak with the citrus, cut up with the credit card and soak again.
Better living through chemistry.

Hey, guys, thanks for your help!
Bob - I met your friend but he wasn't selling. I got impatient after looking for a couple of months. Man, I hated that silly "upscale" gold package.
I just wanted to make sure there was not some problem that was specific to the Sequoia's. I read it here, but I can't find that thread.
