I recently purchased a 2002 Sequoia. The SR5 package included a JBL combination radio/CD/tape player. This player does not include the 6 disk CD changer. I want to upgrade to the 6 disk CD changer. I'm told by my local Toyota dealer that this involves upgrading the player for around $400, and adding an amplifier for $1,100 dollars! I don't understand this. I might believe the $400 for the player but the amplifier is a mystery. Can anyone explain this?

The amplifier is located below the middle of the dash area. That's strange your Sequoia didn't come with it in the first place, but then again I don't know what exactly toyota equipes each truck individually with as far as a radio is concerned. Honestly, don't go from the dealer on a changer and find yourself a nice one from a local stereo shop. Most often than not, you will find a powerful in dash changer that will not require an amp to power the stock speakers. You'll save money and for sure have a better sounding stereo.

I have a Cassette/CD/Stereo combo with an amp (pretty much the same as the Sequoia) and it doesn't sound that great when you turn up the volume. I just don't wanna upgrade right now though, funds are going to pay my truck off. If you want pictures go to ebay and look around for toyota combo decks, sometimes they include the amp at no additional charge. But don't buy off ebay as I have gotten screwed already out of $180 on another deck.
