gee..i wont be getting my FJ80 anymore since i won the bid off of ebay, i wanted to make sure and have a 3rd party inspector check it out and he said that the car had been recently broken into and when you drive it, the alignment is straight but the steering wheel is slanted to the right he said...and also he said that their was glass all over the floor in the car and my inspector asked the dealer and he said he knew nothing about it...very ironic isnt it????

My personal opinion is that you shouldn't buy a vehicle like an 80 off ebay. You'd be smarter and probably better off to research cars.com and traderonline.com for 80's in the Los Angeles area, then fly out to the Los Angeles for a 4-day weekend and check out a bunch of them and see if you can find one you like. Seems to be alot of 80 and 100-series rust-free mall cruiser out here.

last time I looked there were a few. First I'd start at:
http://sleeoffroad.com/newbie/newbie100.htm for a little 80's education,
then I'd look for a FZJ 80 ('93-'97) at cars.com and traderonline.com in the Los Angeles area. You can also try San Diego/San Francisco and other non-rust areas. You could try Phoenix too, but personally I wou'ldn't want car that has cooked for 10 yrs. in 100 degree weather though many others would disagree.

There is always a decent supply of FZJ80s and LX450s floating around Socal. If you look hard enough, you can find them with lockers (front and rear) also. If you are an off roader, consider the factory lockers a "must have" option with these vehicles.

Some of the vehicles are very beat up, but many are in good shape. When I was looking, I found several nice 96-97s with less than 100,000 mi. The Lexus model tends to cost the same or less than the Landcruiser model and more of the LX 450s seem to have the lockers. They also tend to have been dealer serviced by Lexus. The LX 450 was available in 96 and 97...

If you find one in the lower half of San Diego County that you'd like me to look at, let me know. I can tell you if it is worth having a real vehicle inspection or not and recomend a shop to do it.

The front end service will be very expensive at a dealer. I would do this yourself, if possible, or find an independant mechanic who works on Toyota trucks.

As far as mods go, you can lift them up to about 6" and regear and run 35s or 37s fairly easily. 285 70 r16 (metric 33) will fit on the stock suspension without rubbing... A mild lift and some 33s is fairly cheap and easy...

No idea how much the shipping would be. I can only guess based upon what a friend was quoted that it would be $800-$1000

I'd also look in TX as I hear there are alot there as well. Out here in CA there was a sommer mom 40th Anniversary (1997) w/115K that was listed at $11,500 in cars.com I called on it out of curiosity. S-O-L-D!

where are you looking?

Check out autotrader.com and yahoo autos. If you see something you would like me to look at within 50mi. or so of 91942 then let me know.

I'm showing 5 LC's and 4 LX's within 50mi. on yahoo right now...

I'm surprised that the LX's are actually listed higher. I found them to be the same or less recently???

Ship it??? Make a cross country trip of it! After doing a basic tune-up/fluids change, of course. Road Trip!

My dad just sold our old FJ80 (1994) that had the lockers and whatnot for $5,000.

Only had 32000 miles on it too. It was stolen new, they left in a warehouse thinking the cops would forget about it. We bought it from the insurance company. It still had the original tires on it when we got it in late 2003.

I got a chance to try the lockers out when we took it to wisconsin. I drove into a steep ditch embankment with atleast 2 feet of wet snow, and tried to climb out in 4WD Hi. I didnt go ANYWHERE. Slapped her down into 4LO (which engages the lockers if I remember correctly) and she crawled right outta there. Neat trucks, too bad they get SUCH bad gas mileage.

You're kidding me right? A 1994 with only 32K ORIGINAL MILES!?!?

Some body got a great deal. You should have offered it up to someone here first. Oh, well.

You are right though, MPG sucks. But a small price to pay for a rig that will take you basically anywhere you want to go and back again.

BTW...Welcome to the forum!!

Nope, the tires were so square from sitting so long. The nerf bars were rusted to ˟˟˟˟, the CD player was broken, and ALL, I mean ALL the speakers were blown. But after an oil/tranny change, it ran like a champ. They broke the steering colum, so you could start it with any key you fancied. I have pictures of it in the snow on our old Compact Flash card if I can ever find it.

Woulda kept it, too, but it was cloth, and the 4.5 sucked so much gas it was ludacris.

EDITs, I am not new, I got banned for having it out with Yoter. I guess I am here on my second chance (and praying the admins don't notice ) Yoter got banned aswell, and he was the only one who bothered me. mods if you read this, please read my recent posts, they are all helpful and stuff
