Its times like that where Im glad my car can't go fast. I dont want to be that guy on the road/highway that everyone hates.

It would be nice to have more power up hill though, god I really hate when a semi-truck almost passes you going uphill on the freeway!!

On the freeway I get bug hits on my back window and tailgate.

That is sad, but its not so much they need to go fast, they just need to maintain a reasonable speed. There is having the capability of speed and reckless use of speed. It looks like some kid going way too fast to begin with and spinning out because they couldn't control the car.

Another example of watch out for speed was that Audi that was posted in off topic a few months back. Was speeding on some south american highway and was split in half after hitting the tree. That was nuts.

Man tha really is sad, I hate to hear about that... I never intended the thread to point towards actually speeding, just the fact of getting up to a reasonable speed took a very long time and was frustrating compared to my 00 v6 and my bmw.

Sorry, maybe I just needed to tell folks about it. Shouldn't have put it in this thread. Most disheartening to see stuff like that. My daughter is 15 and she's taking her driving permit test today... Mixed feelings about that - proud, scared, amazed the years have gone so fast, scared...

You're a dad?!!
Is she like dad? If so, be scared...very scared.

Naw...she'll be fine. Just teach her to think and anticipate what the speeding, swerving bums are going to do. Also teach that you don't have to drive at the speed limit or over...A lot of times you can slow down a little bit and let the jerks have their accident waaaaaaay ahead of you, so you have time to react. And NO TAILGATING!

Good luck bud!

Oh yeah...One more thing. Teach her that natural selection does not favor the stoopid....or the person riding with the stoopid.

That's a good one. I'll have to remember that.

Flamedx4, just give your daughter the 3.slow, then detune it to make it even slower. That way you don't have to worry about her speeding.

See, by detuning it, she won't even have to worry about speeding tickets while driving through a school zone. To top it off, put a speed governer. With all of this, she probably won't even be able to get out of the driveway.

Any slower and she'll have negative acceleration and velocity!

hmm.. are they *REALLY* that slow to you guys? the ones ive driven feel pretty powerful to me. maybe not QUICK like my MR2 n/a but sure as heck more POWERFUL. anyhow, as for the smashed civic... (1) don't buy cars that can't handle (2) dont try to make those cars to go fast.

i remember once my neighbors friends were showing off while passing my car, (everybody does) and when they went around the corner, KABAM into a tree. new 2000 Honda Accord Coupe. crappy handling cars. and today, at the inpound lot, a late 90's Viper with most of the front gone. again, crappy handling cars.

Well....Mine has a manual and I've never driven an auto. But mine is pretty slow. When I get in my 89 Corolla (manual) it seems like a hotrod. Then again...I drive my 4Runner slow, shift below 3500 rpm in most cases...never more than 4500. And I tend not to race Civics...or Vespas.

Thats funny. I feel the same way when I drive my roommates Geo prizm! It feels so zippy. And I would say that the 3.slow isnt that bad, I mean its pretty bad but around town its all the power that I need. But freeway driving and hills are a lost cause.

Ah, I get it, any car that wrecks is a crappy handling car... Vipers are after all, renowned for their lousy handling ;-) Probably should say crappy driving skills? The civic appeared to lose it because he hooked a tire on the edge of the pavement (cut the corner too tight - probly watched too much World Rally on TV) combine with too much speed that spun him around. If the telephone pole in my yard hasn't stopped it, some big trees in my neighbors yard surely would have, luckily too because their living room window was right in line... The kid has come by a couple of times and talked with my GF, he seems nice and his family seems like good people. Horrible thing to happen, a real tragedy for everyone. Speeding or not, I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
