Yea, I have the MR2 alternator on my 3.4L 5VZ motor.

I would like to do a write up explaining what connector you need and take some pics but its soooooo tight in my engine bay that its difficult to get good pics. Im about 90% certain that you need the MR2/camry/celica/solara/carolla alternator plug probably like $5 for the plug and some decent legth wire at a yard. I remember that the the 4runner plug looked different but I was upsidedown under the car when I was pulling that section of the wire harness out. Again $5 is still way cheaper than a custom alternator. Ill get some pics if I can ge the camera in there next week when I have some time between classes and work.

h/o alternator

hey chris!

if you ever get over kitchener way, there is a place called highland starter and alternator that i have been talkikng with in this regard. they can get me a 150 amp unit and install it for around 250$ less core charge. might be worth a trip west now that the nice weather is here.

It went pretty smooth. It was like a year ago or something and I have had no problems with the alternator. Great swap IMO!

Have you upgraded your wires? Larger cables and larger wire to the fusebox? If your not running a winch then bigger / new wires might be all you need. Corrosion in older wires can really make a difference.

Corrosion even a little corrosion can cause it to draw juice or not charge the battery?? Meanin I have a alt wire that's jus a little corroded ( somewhat blue) and that's it

Think about it this way. All the times you've cleaned the corrosion off, you have only cleaned the end of the cables. The corrosion runs through the entire length of the cable but that corrosion has never been cleaned out. Also take a look at the wire that runs from the alt to the fuse box, that stock wire is tiny and yet it is expected to carry the juice to run all your fused accessories. Unless you are running your lights straight from the battery then that wire needs to be upgraded IMO.
