Throwout bearing sticking?

Allow me to set the stage. I have just spent the entire night studying for a marketing exam. Apparently (though I dont remember doing this) I fell asleep sometime around 6 this morning. I have just woken up at 9:34 for my 9:30 test.

So, I am reversing out of my driveway in a somewhat "sporting" manner and hear a loud squeal when I hit the brakes and turn into the street. (still in gear.) When I depressed the clutch to change into 1st, the noise stopped and didnt return. I thought I might have heard faint hints of this squealing before (turning into my driveway, coincidentally) but this was much louder and, I am sure, correlated to the speed and force generated when I let off the gas this morning.

Is this my throwout bearing seizing on the input shaft?

My clutch and all the toys that wear out with it have 118k on them but I have no clutch slippage or squealing in neutral or during acceleration. This is the only time that I can say with certainty I have heard squealing.

After i bought my 96 4R with 79k, about 10k down the road i got a Chirping from the clutch. only when it i was at an idle with the clutch depressed out of gear. When i would push the clutch back in the chirping would stop. Then all of a sudden the chirp has gone away. But i dont know what to tell you with the loud squeal. It may be time for a new clutch. How many miles you got on your vehicle? and is it the original clutch?

Mileage is approaching 119. As far as I or the PO know, the clutch is original. Im sure I would do well with replacing it..I'm just trying to put it off until my finances are more in line with my actual need. It otherwise drives fine..although sometimes the engage/release points in the clutch pedal stroke seem inconsistent from one day to the next.

I dont thik a sticking throwout bearing would chip in the manner you meantioned.... remember the force that releases the throwout bearing when you release the clutch is the pressure plate.. so if the throwout bearing was sticking on the input shaft you wouldnt be able to go anywhere.. you would be stuck un neutral... If the throwout bearing was stuck in the out positon you wouldnt be able to depress the clutch as the hydrolic fluid wouldnt leave the master and your foot wouldnt move... so i dont think its a sticking throwout bearing..

Are you sure the squeal is clutch/tranny realted.. not brakes or tires even? If it is the clutch it could just be the clutch slipping and saying "replace me"
