My friend's '92 V6 4Runner has recently developed a slight stumble at idle, it's more noticeable in gear. It isn't anything major, just noticeable.

Once warm, every few seconds or so it acts like it's skipping just one cylinder hit perhpas, just a split second. I haven't put a firing tester on the wires to start back tracking it yet.

Any ideas?

TPS or Idle adjustment.

I had the same problem, I looked and looked and finally gave up and sent it in to my local shop and they said my TPS was all gummed up...if you are DIY person UNLIKE ME you can just clean the TPS with some good carb cleaner...there are many on here that could help you with that.

But I will admit, I am a dumba$$ when it comes to that...I'm always afraid I'm going to make the situation worse.

Anywho, my bet would be the TPS. A couple other easy fixes that you might want to do would be cap, rotor, plugs and wires, those can never hurt anything and really aren't too hard to do yourself...*I* can even do them!

TPS is just a few months old, plugs/wires/cap/rotor aren't much older.

Do these things have any kind of crakshaft/camshaft position sensor that might be going out?

Have you tried cleaning the throttle body? Also the injectors? I hate to say it but the first sign that my head gasket was blowing was the samething as you discribe too.

Didn't think of running a can of snake oil through it, I can try that.

Not long ago (early summer) they recalled her Toyota to have the head gaskets replaced. I hope they're not going out again on a factory recall..

I looked at the TB fairly recently (replacing broken intake hose) and it wasn't bad at all. I can have a second look.

The miss is so quick and subtle it leads me to believe it's ignition related but I don't know Toyotas as well as you guys.
