what about when water and mud gets in the engine bay.... do they make it harder for your engine to suck in water?

damn, wish i woulda run into this before i bought the k&n...not that i dont like mine, just wish that it had a box around it that i didnt have to build...

Cool looking... but I find it interesting that no one here has challenged the design of this system. Looks as though it would not perform much better than stock.

The design completely defeats the purpose of having 360 deg filtration with a cone filter. I don't know if Gadget tested the K&N FIPK with the hood up or down. I'm guessing down as it lost power due to drawing in underhood heat. The results would be different if he ran it with the hood up. Cone filters are great if you can evacuate underhood heat, (open hood scoop, vented hoods, etc).

Don't get me wrong, it looks very nice under the hood. The concept just seems very odd to me.

I thought the same things about these filter kits at first. One of the best things I like about this filter is where it draws air from. One inlet is right behind the passenger headlight; the second is right where the elbow comes in from the fender. In effect, drawing colder air from outside instead of just having a cone filter open in the engine bay.

This design works well and does give performance gains plus better throttle response.
