I'm getting a wiring harness and 90/130 watt bulbs for my truck. The highest wattage bulbs i've seen are the IPF 100/170 watt bulbs. Now that's bright. Only thing is, I can't find them anywhere.

What is the brightest halogen bulb?

Here's an independent labs results on some of the more popular halogen bulbs and there brightness:

For the 55W marked segment, sorted in order of brightness:
+50%: Philips Vision Plus (achieves its extra performance by increased luminance, not lumens. See this article: http://www.eur.lighting.philips.com/...tsVision.shtml

+30%: Philips Premium, Osram Silverstar (European marked only - see note below)

+20%: Osram/Sylvania Xtra Vision, Osram/Sylvania Silverstar (North american marked only - see note below)

+0%: Philips Bluevison, Osram/Sylvania Cool Blue, Osram/Sylvania Halogen Plus, and OEM bulbs like GE.

-10%: PIAA Superwhite

Silverstar: Do not confuse the European (clear glass) Silverstar with the North american (slightly blue tinted) Silverstar. The blue tint steals light!

PIAA "Xtreme White" was released ~Dec 2001. No independant tests have been conducted so far, but several positive indications has it that this can end up in the +20-30%.

If your car is set up for higher wattage bulbs, Philips Rally bulbs will give more lumens than most asian overwatts. Be aware that lifetime of a Philips Rally bulb is ~100hours - so keep some spares in the glove compartment. Philips bulbs are availble from http://www.powerbulbs.com or www.autolamps-online.com
Narva bulbs are also top notch. Narva is a daughter company of Philips with one intention: compete with top notch products on the aftermarked. Philips themself are OEM oriented.

I run 35 watt headlights....but then again, I'm using HIDs....*grin*

oly884, you might want to think about how bright you make your low beams. Blinding oncoming traffic could get you into more trouble than a ticket.

I've thought about that, needamog. I'll aim them a little down towards the ground. Also, 1st, I have a lifted truck and therefor the headlights are higher so people will just think that my lights are that way. 2nd I've never heard of a cop pulling someone over for their headlights around my area. 3rd, not bad mouthing cops, but how many of them will think i have a higher wattage bulb in them? not to mention that they look out for the "blue" colored lights because most of the time they will go after those people.

The Osrams(silverstars) are alittle newer to the market, but the Philips are said th be alittle superior in quality. I was running the OEM Philips 55 watt H7's in my driving lights and switched to the Philips "vision plus" 55 watt H7's and they are alot brighter with alot more (suprizing) usable light on the road.

I just installed the Phillips Vision Plus 50%. They are well worth the $28.00/pair. They are quite a bit brighter and whiter than the stock bulbs.

I got 2 pairs and will put the second pair in the wife's 02 Pre-Runner.

Definately worth it. I ordered mine direct from Sylvania Sunday and got them today. I installed them over my lunch break and on my way home this evening I could see a major difference.

osram all reason

I took a look at the power bulbs site, wondered is anyone has any first hand (or second hand for that matter) experience with Osram's All Season H4? Is the gold color supposed to help with contrast sort of like shooting glasses, or something?

Thnx,
Ian

I have had the Silverstar 9004ST for a couple months and overall I like them but as Doink mentioned...on rainy nights they are a little dim, and even when its not raining at night they're really not too bright...but as far as overall color difference, MUCH whiter!

Good luck with them!

Are the bulbs in a 97 Runner the same as 99 and up, or did they change the bulb when they went to the new enclosure?

I'm thinking about upgrading to the 99> headlights and don't want to spend money on new bulbs if I'm going to have to switch bulb type with the new enclosures..

nothing but good from me

I put the silverstars in my Piaa 80's, they made a huge difference, but its kinda sad that my highbeams HID kill my Piaa's.... Lets say after i installed my Silverstars 3 of my friends went out that night and bought them.... oh yeah i saw this in the forum.... 9003 headlights and H4 bulbs are exactly the same except for thier intended use... it was confusing for me at first....
