Help guys.... Temp Gauge acts erratic!!!

I just noticed my temp gauge acting crazy. Sometimes it bounces back and forth from cold to the half way point when the engine is warmed up. And then it even sometimes stays in the cold position. Then it will come up to operating temperature and be fine. Then again it will go all the way back to the cold position for a while. It doesn't do it slowly either. It quickly moves to these other positions. Any ideas as to what is wrong with it? Yeah I know...save the jokes about it being "broken". lol

Not normal. Once warned up, my guage doesn't move a bit. It stays just to the left of half way.

No way am I a tech, but the first thing that comes to my mind is the sending unit.
I do not know where it is, but if you can trace it, it might be a loose wire, bad ground ect, at the engine block where it plugs in.
It's acting like it gets a signal, then cuts out, then gets it again.

I have a FSM, I might be able to look later and see where the sending unit is.

Thanks Corey

I'll check under the hood tomorrow morning. Glad it will be Saturday. And yes, mine too was sitting right below the halfway mark on my gauge until this happened. I'm hoping this isn't going to be a nightmare. But you're right, the way it's acting it sure does seem like a loose connection of some kind. I'll let ya know what I find. Thanks again!

It could be a gauge, sender or loose wire problem. Lets hope so,

The other thing it could be is a bad head gasket. That is one of the classic ways it presents.

Gauge scan from FSM.

It doesn't really show on here though where it hooks to the engine to see if the ground or positive is bad.

Mucho cheaper to fix this than to get the Hummer you are looking at.
Are you mindset on getting it?
What about a new 4 door Tacoma with the locker?

It will be a lot more realiable than the Hummer.
