This whole thread applies to the 3rd generation 4Runners. The gauge and dash backlighting is the same.

You guys seem to be really fighting poor quality LEDs, hot spots, fitment problems, etc. The solution for all of those issues is to abandon the plug and play bulb idea and instead use an LED ribbon around the gauges. The result is hotspot-free beautiful gauge illumination.

Option 1 is to use the LEDs meant for BMW angel eyes--the bulbs are spaced considerably closer together for a more uniform appearance.


But here is the best way (from a Toyota Supra site):
Wind an LED ribbon around the gauges and wire it to one of your abandoned bulb circuit board traces.

Yeah, great idea indeed. I'd be interested to see more information about how you wired up the led strips. It'd be awesome if you could wire them into them into the dimmer/rheostat. If you did that, how?

LED strips look cool, but way too much work...3 bright LED's in there will cure any dark spot issues you may be having.

What are the bulb numbers for the tiny lights (2) in the heater a/c unit and the ash tray. I have a 1999 sr5. Are they dealer only? Just joined this forum

In case anyone needs to replace their HVAC heater air conditioner dash light bulbs in a 3rd gen (2002 SR5 in my case; verify yours is the same as mine), here is what I found. It took me a long time to find, so hopefully this helps someone out there. :

Toyota part number is 9001005126 . $8.16 per bulb at https://parts.toyota.com/p/Toyota_20...001005126.html

I found them cheaper at Toyotapartsdeal.com. Part number 90010-05126. $5.84 per bulb, with green covering over bulb.
