Same deal here...
I went in there yesterday, asked them about it and first guy I talked to had no idea that it was even IN the manual. The Service Manager wasn't in so they had to call him on his cell phone and then he said he had to call the regional office and see what they said about it.
Then they called me back, said that at around pg. 162 there is a maintenance chart that says it has to be done at 80k for free, +/- a few thousand miles. I am exactly 46,740 miles past the deadline. So...I guess they can't do it. I am going into the dealer tomorrow to pick up my ordered fuel filter and am going to buy the sensor for a much discounted price from my buddy who works there and I will install it myself with the help of some "Liquid Wrench."
Hope SOME of you can get a free one, sounds like they are pretty damn strict to me. I would think that given the fact that as far as both of us know (the stealer and I) it has NEVER been done. I would hope that Toyota would WANT to do it for me but...guess not.
I will let you know how the install goes...and post if I need any help.

haha...I was thinking of sabotaging it but was unsure if even that would trigger the engine light or would be safe enough to drive to the dealer after doing so. Haha..i'm sure i can negotiate a deal with one of the 3 local dealers before taking things into my own hands.

I went by my dealer yesterday and the first guy had no clue and the service manager said that it had to be done at 80K miles or close to it. So I guess I'm out.

I bottomed my old Accord out on uneven ground and that was enough to brake it's O2 sensor. Drove it like that for a week before replacing it. Have to say very nice find on the "misprint."

Got mine today...list price was 119.82...I got it for 70
I love having connections...anyway, I'm going to hit the old one with Liquid Wrench in the morning and then try and remove the old one sometime tomorrow afternoon a good while after the liquid wrench has been applied. I will also do the cap and rotor and then early next week I will do the fuel filter.
I am hoping that after all of this hassle I will have better mileage!!!

Hmmm...
New sensor is installed and working as far as I can tell. No Check Engine Light so I think it all went well. Next step will be to install the cap and rotor which I will do later tonight after it cools down a little.
I will let you know how the performance increases/changes...thanks for all the help guys!

Got my 02 sensor, cap and rotor installed. Truck is running GREAT! Now all I need to do is take my truck to the shop to have the fuel filter done.
I will let you know when that gets done...
Thanks for ALL the help guys, I really appreciate it

I read my manual closely too, and yes, I tried to get a free O2 sensor for a 1990 4Runner with 133k miles about 2 months ago.
I went to a dealer and they said "no way, the manual is wrong". I am pretty hard to say No to, and I pressed the issue. I just was not going to go away, and once they saw it, they gave me a Toyota 800 number, which I called, and after much research here is what I found out.
1) This service can ONLY be done at no charge at 80,000 miles, give or take a few. Mine had 133k , which is about 53K miles more than "a few" so I was out of luck.
2) This CAN be done at no charge BUT it has to be performed as a service, NOT repair. That is, if there is something wrong with the truck, they will not replace it.. but if you tell them you want it done as a service not repair, and you got 80k on odometer, they will have to do it whether they like it or not.
So, I did not get me a free sensor, but at least I got the satisfaction of educating my arrogant Toyota dealer about my rights. Anyone know how to roll back odometers? hehehe
If any of you manage to convince your dealer to do it for free, I want to know where those saps are!

I recieved my free o2 sensor yesterday from the dealer. They asked me if the check engine light was on, I said no it wasn't. I told them that I wanted a new one as a service not a repair and showed them my manual. I told them that I already spoke to the zone office and they said it was legit, which I had not. They copied the pages and took care of it with no other complaints. They even retapped the two bolts or studs for free.
I guess dealers are not so bad after all.

I got my free O2 sensor on my '93 about a year ago. I think I had 84,000 miles on her. Apperently no yota dealership within a few hundred miles of me had ever heard of a free 02 sensor. However after a few phone calls with Toyota and 3 days later I had it installed parts and labor free......just like the manual says. My point being is that most of y'all high mileages people probably could get one for free also if you pushed the issue hard enough.

I guess the main issue here, is your truck anywhere near 80K. If it is, they can be forced to do it, albeit you probably have to get Toyota on their a$$. Mine with 133k was 53k too late.. I think the one with 84K miles was pretty lucky to have it replaced, but 84k is a hell lot closer to 80k then 133 K
