The shifter nob does not get hot, but the lever itself can get pretty warm. I usually don't notice unless I'm on the road for a few hours. I have been using royal purple in everything for six years now. Can't say anything bad about that stuff...except cost, but its worth every limb.

Yep, the part of the shifter that is close to the trans gets hot on long trips. I have used MT-90 for years and so far seen no problems.
