That was probably the worst engine Toyota ever made, the 3.4 is just the opposite.

Just so you know what to expect, no matter what you get it will not be a power house.

Now i have the 3.4 with 125k and it is just broke in. It runs as good as ever and can hit the governer easy (not that i have tried it........). The 3.4 will last forever if you treat it right.

Now if you were to get the 05+ V8 with a supercharger THEN you would have a power house!!

The 3.4 is a great motor but the new 4.0 has much, much more go. My '05 Taco has the 5spd automatic and would blow the doors clean off my '99 4runner. Get the 6spd manual and I bet it would really cook! On the other hand it may be hard to get wide spread input on it's long term reliability.

Yeah whateva.

The 5vzfe(3.4) is just a bored out, stronger built 3vzfe(3.0). The 3vzfe is just a stronger built 3vze(3.0) with DOHC. What I'm trying to say here is you don't get a 5vzfe without "the worst engine Toyota ever made"(3vze) as it's predecessor.

That's like saying "Windows 95 is the worst ever, Vista is just the opposite".

Well, yeah. XP for sure, I actually was kinda fond of 98 too, but Vista being the latest version seemed the most appropriate for the analogy.

I'd gladly upgrade my 3vze to a 3vzfe or a 5vz. But I haven't had any reason to. I've told many people "as soon as I blow it up". That's been out of my capabilties thus far though with only 218,000 on it.

LOL, yeah i was just funny with you and that popped in my head and i could not pass up saying it!

I have never had a 3.slow so i really can't say anything about them one way or the other. all i know is that i love my 3.4. I wish it had a little more power but the SC will give it enough for what i need. Then i will get a 428 197X mustang mach 1 for when i really need to go.

I wouldn't recommend the 3vze over the other V6's. But I would recommend it over ANY 4 banger any day of the weak(if all the 3rz's got it is what the 3.0 has, then why bother?). It's not that gutless. I can't even imagine trying to turn my 35" tires with 4.30 gears while pushing my ~4000lb. vehicle with 4 measly cylinders. Forget that idea, bad enough as is...

I'll say this about it, addressing the true weak spot on the 3vze(crossover exhaust overheating #6 cylinder leading to HG failure or burnt valve syndrome)by modifying the exhaust to run cooler(flow better)pretty much solves that issue all together. No biggie at all really to fix(crossover elimination exhaust/headers and/or hi-flow cat/muffler). Then you got yourself one HELL of a reliable engine in my book, like the one I got.

I have a 2RZ-FE and R151F with dual cases (244:1) that will be replacing my tired 3VZE and R150F soon. I would have held out for a 3RZ, but for the price I paid, I can live with the 8HP/20TQ less.

I have a 2009 prerunner with the 40. 235,000 miles, still runns like a new engine.Changed the oil regularly with synthetic since new. Changed the plugs at 200'000. Best motor ever. Will keep until, I'm guessing 500'000 miles

Well not a total loss lol

The totally rebuilt V6 in my moms 97 F150 just displayed way way way excessive crank thrust after only 59,000 miles.

Portland Engine Rebuilders Larson & King’s!!!
All oil changes were kept up on at the Ford dealership.

She can't afford the newest latest greatest because of retirement so I thought maybe a somewhat newer Toyota. It sounds like the 2.7 or the 3.4 is the way to go.

EXACTLY why I always recommend going with a used OEM engine over a rebuild. Rebuilds just can't compare.
