Adding 2nd fuel filter ahead ?

I have 1997, 4WD Tacoma 4 cyl. 3RZ-FE which is the larger 1.7 Liter California version of the regular 4 cylinder.

The fuel filter goes out every 25,000 miles or so (clogs). It is under the intake manifold and from what I read takes 2 hours to replace.

When it goes out the engine sputters only at high altitudes when I head from the lowlands where I live on up to the nearby mountains 40 miles away.

I want to add a narrow ( auto parts store) inline fuel filter between the tank and engine ahead of the other filter which would easier to change.

Has anybody done this?
Anybody have pictures of how they mounted it so driving over rough jeep trails will not cause a leak?

Thanks!
