Got this Aisin waterpump from online vendor, which came with metal gasket.
I used to deal with OEM waterpump, which has no metal gasket but instead the oem one had "groove" in the mating surface so that I had to apply some sort of RTV stuff.

Now, this New Aisin waterpump came with "metal gasket" which is good by itself. But is it still going to be ok without applying RTV? I just wonder it will really "seal" the gap without such RTV material...... Or do I need to tighten bolts with a little more torque?

use the gasket it came with, and make sure the surfaces are clean and flat, and you will not have any problems. RTV just gets into the cooling system and makes a goopy mess.

Actually, that Aisin pump IS the current OEM pump. I bought mine from my dealer--it came in a Toyota box--and that is exactly what I got. I installed it with no RTV or FIPG to the standard torque in May. It worked hard all summer and I have yet to put a drop of additional coolant in it. The redesign has been around for a few years as you will see if you search old threads, and I have seen no complaints about them. You may, in fact, be overthinking this one. They obviously redesigned this for a reason, the old design DID tend to leak and was a pain to put in. I'd go with the flow.

Yes! actually that RTV left some residue in the cooling passage. So, it will be great not to use such RTV if possible. Now you guys confirmed that I can safely have that RTV thing phased out of my rig. Thanks again.

A lot of foreign vehicles use the metal stamped gaskets for intake manifolds and water pumps.

Interesting how GM's 3.1 and 3.4 motors have had intake gaskets leaking coolant at 40,000 miles since the mid 1990's. They use some fancy plastic gasket with rubber embedded. To this day they still use the same method and they still leak notoriously.

However, a foreign car can use a simple metal stamped gasket that holds 15psi of coolant and can last over 200,000 miles with no leaks!

What I meant to say is..... Yes! The metal gasket is fine by itself as DC said with no sealers and clean surfaces.

they all speak from experience but I always use sealant just a dab will do ya! "a light coat" but that is me.

Thanks guys this is great to know. I'm doing a 5vz-fe t-belt etc. with all factory parts. I love other people's money for fixing things That metal gasket looks beautiful....

Aisin is the oem pump. Be sure to clean the block of ALL previous gasket material and use metal gasket alone with normal torque. Cant go wrong. Cant tell you how many I have done. Did one twice, hence the emphisis on removing ALL previous gasket material

The reason they now come with metal gaskets is, once a vehicle hit 90k the techs for Toyota would replace the water pump with fipg. Which is they way it came from the factory. What implemented the switch was a majority of technicians were putting WAY to much fipg on the new w/p. Causing damage and more maintenance so this was their solution, a metal gasket! So cheers to a new water pump and torqur it down properly and you are good to go!

Most of my Toyota questions end up being answered on yotatech and I will gladly show appreciation to the thread regardless of age More than anything I was super excited to almost immediately find opinions regarding sealant with the oem aisin metal gasket...
