perfect.... I literally just aquired everything I need to do a complete tune on my own and what happens? my laptop craps out for good, motherboard is fried, yeah.... thanks HP for the awesome powerchord that fluctuated it's voltage and zapped my crap.

now I need a new laptop, hooray... anyone have a cheap laptop? hahahaha

I need XP, love that OS. I want to murder the actual makers of Vista, ewww..

anyway, fresh tuning results to come as promised, if not delayed for a bit...

nice, I ran my start up map for almost 6 months with no issues and decent power (and no CEL's)

but, picked up 65 HP with tuning the fuel map alone.... suprisingly, it wasn't all that noticeable after I got it back from the dyno but it was smooth thru the gears.

after re-doing my intake, I really need to retune mine... not real bad BUT.....

still haven't been able to tune! this is pissing me off, I cannot connect to the ECU/FTC unit for some freakin' reason; R4 controller software says it's unable to connect to the ECU, check power/connection to the ECU. my USB-A to serial cable is working fine with it's driver, same one I used for the first tune at the shop without problems. tried every com port, tried it with the key in ACCY, ON and engine running ON, still no dice. Anyone have any thoughts on this???

I really want to get into my FTC unit so I can smooth out my idle a bit, runs strong still but annoying idle that dips to 500rpm for an instant every now and again. checked all my fuses also. obviously my ECU/FTC is getting power or my truck wouldn't even start! what the crap...? done all the disconnect, reconnect, reboot, re-install software, etc... nothing

I need to get a hold of gadget and pick his brain. I'm running XP professional operating system btw.... tried it with vista also, same error in connecting. At least the truck is running good where it's at, I can still twist up my axle on a hard pull!

Any leads on someone that would do this in the Houston Area? I'd gladly pay $3G's for the 3.4L and the swap into an 87 4-Runner! I was thinking more like $6K-$7K! $2800 is an absolute STEAL IMNSHO!!!

ORS (offroad solutions) did them (in AZ) but IDK if they still do them or not. There's a place in Portland, OR that does them also. Check out TRDparts4u.com, I think they have complete package deals for the 3.4 swap for like $3500, a bit expensive but it's supposed to include everything you need.

don't know of anyone in the houston area though, I would definitely check out trdparts4u though, I purchased my SC from them new and they have a good reputation from what I've experienced and hearing from a few others.

Thanks for the leads. I'd be more than happy with anything below $5K "out the door" TBH! $3500 sounds just right, and leaves me plenty of cushion to get the rest of my 4Runner in tip top (AKA “Like New”) shape…. I'll be doing everyhtng but the motor swap

Do you know if those estimates include a newer Taco/4Runner/T100 Transmission and Transfer case - or would they try to mate the 5VE to my 22RE's 5-Speed and Transfer case?

Your input is much obliged, sir

No Go on the www.trdparts4u.com (they are a Dallas Toyota Dealership). Just called them and they don't do motor swaps - just factory repairs (at dealership labor rates!), and parts sales, etc.

I'll look into the other suggestions and investigate vehicle transportation to another state (sounds expensive). I'll let your thread get back on topic now I'll take my 87 talk back to my thread...

no worries, not much activity on here anyway until I can connect to my FTC unit with my laptop, some technical issues.....

I didn't realize you had an 87, I'm not much familiar with the 1st gens unfortunately.... a 3.4 can be done, I just don't know much about it.. you could look into a 1uz-fe if you have $5k to spend... I found one on craigslist in my area for $1700, it is a fantastic engine and still a toyota/lexus make. it's a very nice/reliable/powerful 4.0 V8 but you will have to buy an expensive kit to mate the engine with the drivetrain plus find the ECU and do some custom fab of the motor mounts, oil pan, etc...

good luck!

no, believe it or not, that was with everything I have on it now without the tune running URD's startup map. I honestly didn't notice as much of a difference as I expected before and after my tune but it felt so much smoother and obviously there was much more power. She is fun to push. Once I solve my connection problem to the FTC, it's time to really sit down and dial in my methanol/timing map, shoud be able to get another easy 20hp on top of what I have now at 227rwhp.

the pickups (4wd) lose about 80-100hp thru the drivetrain, huge loss but that's the price you pay for being fully capable offroad.

hey now, this IS my twitter, hahahahaha...

dude, twitter is gay.... so is facebook....

yeah, like I said on another thread, this thread turned from sort of a 'build' thread into a 'what's happinin' now' thread.... really I'm just stalling until I can get into my FTC unit and post some actual information on here....

Oh that reminds me, I need to update this thread!

My AC is crapped out, it's smoking my belt and causing the idle issue I mentioned earlier pretty sure anyway... after the new AC compressor and whatever else it requires, I might finally get to some tuning, wish me luck....

^^thanks 4runner! And yes I can beat the crap out of a rav4 !! and most average vehicles on the road.. obviously there's a lot of things that can beat this but how many small 4x4 pickups can lay down this kind of power? hahaha... I can hang with the huge freakin' turbo diesels out there putting down 2.5 times the HP but also 2.5 x the weight... just wait until I turbo the crap out of it....

vital, I just ordered a complete compressor unit today from techchoiceparts.com along with a new accumulator and a complete set of O-rings for $207 delivered... gonna replace the whole she-bang and it turned out much cheaper than I had thought, thankfully. I have it disconnected and the belt off right now, drove 65 miles today and she runs smooth except for the stupid idle problem still. I was hoping it was the AC unit causing that but alas, no...

one day here shortly, I may actually get back to tuning and finish repairing....
