Question 5VZ-FE engine wont start.

Hello to all, as I am new to Yotatech. My problem is me and my father-in-law just replaced the engine in his '97 4runner. It started up and ran fine for three days, once we drove it down the road and back it was still running fine. Once we got home and parked it, we turned the heater on and the engine died. We cannot get it to start up again, the engine rotates, has spark, and has gas going to it. All connections are together as well as vacuum lines. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Well we just pulled the timing cover off and it appears to have jumped timing. With engine at top dead center, camshaft timing marks are about 10 to 15 degrees from lining up. What would cause this to happen?

It's possible that your hydraulic tensioner is going out. That puts pressure on the belt so it stays tight.

I had the same scenario happen with a mitsubishi i used to have...the tensioner wasn't putting enought pressure on the belt so it jumped time.
